Windows Vista Features

Browse the Web

With its built-in networking and security features, Windows Vista gives you a great start on using the Internet. With it, you're free to browse the web and connect with other Internet users. If you also take advantage of Windows Live services, you'll have the ability to pick the program or service that best fits your needs.

If you want to search websites and download content, you can use Windows Internet Explorer 7 in Windows Vista to browse with greater ease and security than in previous versions. The new look of Internet Explorer 7 is more streamlined, with less clutter. It also has new features, such as tabbed browsing and live previews, so you can open and view multiple websites in one window. Plus, the new Instant Search box in Internet Explorer 7 makes it easy to search the Internet directly from your browser window. You choose your favourite search provider from the drop-down list and then search the Internet from any page.

Instant Search streamlines searching the Internet from any webpage.

Internet Explorer 7 also provides built-in support for Really Simple Syndication (RSS) feeds, which automatically download your favourite news, sports updates, and other content right to your PC. Choose the RSS feeds you want to subscribe to, and Internet Explorer 7 consolidates headlines from each feed into a single list.

Out of the millions of valuable and safe sites and resources on the web, some can cause harm to your PC or degrade its performance. New features in Internet Explorer 7 help protect your PC against malicious software and downloads you haven't authorized. In addition, the new Phishing Filter in Internet Explorer 7 checks websites before you connect to them and warns you about suspicious sites. This can help you avoid identity theft from phony sites that may look, for example, like your bank's website.

The Phishing Filter warns you about suspicious websites before you connect to them, which helps protect your identity - and you.

Internet Explorer 7 also supports a rich ecosystem of add-ons that enable you to extend and customize your browsing experience to your liking. For example, when you add Windows Live Toolbar to Internet Explorer 7, you get a more personalized search and browsing experience, with tools that let you search for almost anything - websites, RSS feeds, images, or local listings - with Windows Live Search. And Windows Live Toolbar makes it easy to access other Windows Live services - such as Mail, Messenger, and Spaces - no matter where you happen to be on the web. At the Add-Ons for Internet Explorer site, you can download the Live Toolbar, as well as other useful toolbars and utilities from a range of providers, such as Yahoo.
