Experience Memories: Find Your Pictures Easily

In the past, it took time to properly organise your pictures into folders and name them in ways that make them easy to find later. That can be a problem when you try to find a specific picture. Imagine that your sister Jean comes to visit. You want to show her a picture from the holiday you took sailing together last summer. Will you be able to find it? If you haven't regularly organised your pictures, it can be difficult to find the one you want.

Organise your memories in Windows Photo Gallery

Rather than go back later to add names and sort your photos, what if you could easily do it at the same time you download them? With Windows Vista, you can tag your pictures as you import them. Imagine - your photos can be organised by the time they're imported to your computer. Think what you could do with pictures if you can find them right away months or years from now. You can also tag your pictures after you import them.

Tagged and rated picture in Windows Photo Gallery

Tag and rate your pictures to make them easier to find.

Windows Vista stores the keywords that you tagged the picture with (also known as metadata) in the image file, so the keywords are always there - whether you change computers, send the picture to friends or save the image to a CD or DVD. You can then use these keywords to find what you're looking for by using the powerful search capabilities in Windows Vista.

Find them easily

Now searching for your pictures is more intuitive - you can look for pictures the way you remember them. To find the picture for your sister Jean, you can type the words 'sailing' and 'Jean' to find all the pictures that you tagged with those words. If you remember the date you took the picture, you can find it that way, too - Windows Vista also organises pictures by the date they were taken.

You can also rate your photos, and then organise or search for them based on the ones that you like best. This makes it easy to find your favourite pictures later. You don't have to create a separate favourites folder - just look at the pictures with the best ratings.

Organise your home movies, too

Windows Photo Gallery isn't just for photos. You can also tag and organise your home movies in the exact same ways that you organise your photos. You can add titles, descriptions, keywords and ratings. Plus, you can use Windows Movie Maker to edit your films. Turn hours of tape or digital video into a film that you and your friends will want to watch. You can just include the best parts and add titles, transitions, narration and music.
