Do More in a Day

Windows Vista comes with a number of new, built-in productivity features that will help you to save time and can even help to make your life a little easier. New tools, such as Instant Search, and innovative hardware design features will help you to find what you're looking for more quickly. You can use the built-in calendar for your own schedule, and also to keep up with the schedules of your family and associates. And Windows Vista includes productivity tools for your mobile PC, so you can get more done wherever you are.

Spend less time finding files

With all you have to do in the day, taking extra time to look for documents on your computer is probably something you'd rather not do. One of the most helpful features in Windows Vista is the way search is integrated throughout the operating system.

Instant Search is a new tool in Windows Vista that lets you type a file name, a keyword or even text contained within a file, and quickly get organised results. Instant Search tailors results based on your current activity, whether it's searching for programs in the Control Panel, for music files in Windows Media Player, for an email message in your email program, or searching all of your files and applications in the Start menu.

Instant Search

Instant Search helps you find what you need when you need it.

You can access Instant Search from almost anywhere in Windows Vista - including the Start menu. To find a specific file, email message, contact, event, application or Internet Favourite, simply open the Start menu and begin typing in the Instant Search field. As you type, Windows Vista finds and displays matching items, whether they are applications, Internet Favourites, documents, media, contacts, calendar events or email messages. Now you can find practically anything on your PC with as-fast-as-you-can-type performance.

Productivity features have spread to hardware design as well. Not only can you search more quickly, you have faster access to the Start menu to get to search. The new, revised version of the Windows key (now called the Start button) lets you get started right away. When you press the Start button, the Start menu opens with a search field already selected - so you can press the button, start typing and find the file, application, website or email you're looking for right away. Some keyboards have placed the Start button just under the space bar for even faster access.

Windows Vista also includes a feature called Search Folders. These are searches that run instantly when you click them. You can create your own or use one that comes preconfigured with Windows Vista. Recent Documents shows you all of the recently used documents on your computer, and All Attachments shows you all of the files on your computer that are email attachments.

Manage your life

Windows Vista includes a built-in calendar to help you manage your schedule and even those of your family members. Windows Calendar helps you manage your time by adding events to your schedule. With alerts, you can be reminded when an event is about to occur. You can even track a number of tasks, so you never forget something on your to-do list. Everyone in your family can create their own calendars, and you can share them amongst the family so they can all be seen at once - this way it's easy to track everyone's schedules and to find time that's free for the whole family.

Stay connected when you travel

Windows Vista also includes enhanced productivity features for your mobile PC. New features for battery power, settings and synchronisation will help you to be productive, even when you're away from home.

Carrying a laptop that has run out of battery power is a waste of your time and energy, and it's frustrating too. Windows Vista makes it easy to see at a glance how much battery power you have and includes several new features that help you extend the life of your battery. Now you don't have to spend time configuring and reconfiguring settings every time you take your laptop out your front door. Windows Mobility Center lets you easily control display settings, volume, wireless networking, synchronisation status and power management all in one place.

Windows Vista offers Sync Center - a single, convenient location where you can easily manage all of your computers and devices. So now when you access information on the road, the data is the same as it is at home.

From Windows Easy Transfer to the Windows Mobility Center, it is easier for you to keep your information up to date and organised. And the 2007 Microsoft Office system works together with Windows Vista to make it simpler than ever to find, create and manage your documents and information.
