IE8 Performance

In the absence of effective benchmarking tools, the Internet Explorer Team created a real world test which took in several key factors into consideration and created a level playing field for all browsers tested. The results when comparing Internet Explorer 8 page load times to Firefox and Chrome were captured on this video.

Installed Windows 7 this weekend and it was OK. IE8 however is not scrolling corrcetly compared to Firefox and Chromium. You would think Microsoft could have a better internet browser, but I guess not.

Before I meant: opening pages saved on disk while being offline causes MAJOR annoyances to every user.

The "Save As..." menu option MUST be assosiated with the Ctrl+S key combination and the Save As dialog should remember the last saving format used (html/mht/etc).
Opening MHT files is VERY slow and opening pages while being offline causes MAJOR annoyances to every user (I mean the pop-up dialogs asking you to connect 100 continuous times for the same page)...

The password manager should be more like the one Opera uses. The password manager should not pause page load while waiting for password save confirmation.
The "Stop Loading" button should be disabled when loading is done. The back and forward buttons could adopt the behaviour used in Chrome&Opera (click and mouse move makes the recent page list appear).

I use IE 8 on WinXP and:
-Opening new tabs is slow.
-Most add-ins create problems/delays (could be IEPro...)
I think the UI should be improved.
Why don't you take some features from Opera ? And how about Chrome's "Task Manager" ? An option to restore last session at startup OR warn users when a previous session is to be erased MUST be added.

I am using Windows 7 Build 7100 and IE 8, with Intel Celeron M and 3gb Ram, but Explorer 8 is still consistently slower.  Personally I'm crashing a lot with IE8. Now I am using Chrome.

Nice video, but Internet Explorer is still consistently slower than Chrome.  I don't know what fancy stuff they're doing, but it takes FOREVER to load content heavy pages in IE.  It also takes ages to start up in the first place.

I think, it really depends on computer's hardware, it might affect on results for each browser separately and differently. And also, besides hardware, is computer's configurations in general plus add-ons, make a whole difference.
They showed results from lab, but in real life things might change a lot.

When I tested google.com on Mozilla Firefox 3.0.7 and IE8 on my PC(Windows 7), Firefox was faster. The same thing happened when I tested live.com. From Apple.com, the time it took IE8 to reach apple.com/mac was about 6 seconds while Firefox took about 3 seconds. I like IE8 for its useful full screen preview for all of its tabs. However, I prefer Firefox as it has alot of add-ons that I simply cannot live without, such as fast dial, stumbleupon and Flagfox.
Gonna give it a try (253 days ago)

I'm going to give IE8 a try soon. I'm also running Win 7, so we'll see how it goes.

Wow, nice job Microsoft.  Personally I'm crashing a lot with IE8 on Windows 7 build 7000 but rumor has it that IE8 on build 7057 is really stable.  If that's true great job.  Thanks for the nonbiased results, it really means a LOT.
