Got the Office 2010 Beta from TechNet today.  I am saddened to say the the number one requested feature for Excel for years, the ability to open  files in their own windows, is still not implemented.  MDI should be an option but not a requirement.

I'm a little confused by some of the comments made so far, the introduction of Excel 2007 (including the now infamous ribbon), was a major step forward in my opinion.  Data access and the improvements made to tables are worth the upgrade alone.  Add to that improved filtering, conditional formatting and the name manager etc. etc.  The only thing I could fault is the horrible charts (inline charting in 2010 should improve this however...I hope).  Build a front end dashboard and attatch it to a datasoure and away you go...it's as simple as that.  Top, top stuff.

Working with a large government agency -- just now moving to 2007.  The 2010 version is even better and has free add-ons not available in 2003.  The 2007 and forward versions store documents in XML, allowing for better exchange in the future.  Products like "Ribbon Customizer" allow me to change the ribbon -- and yes -- even bring back 2003 if I want.

Fortune 500 firm here, we are still using Windows 2003.  Totally skipped 2007 (we hate it) and so far we are not impressed with 2010.  WE HATE THE RIBBONS, How come you guys are so stuborn, like a stupid dog, you have to be beat down with a stick.  Not buying into it, we are so upset that we started to use OpenOffice for free.

I'm really liking the new charting by cell/column of data for trending, the slicer is pretty neat and the screenshot will be of great use going forward. Thanks!! :)

It would be great to be able to customize the ribbon, including the return of the icon editor for use with custom buttons.

Excel used to be a top notch product. Easy to use, and allowed me to analyze data quickly and easily. I've been a financial analyst, creating spreadsheets for a living. I'm glad I don't do that anymore. I'm not sure who you think you're making this easy for, but it's certainly not BI professionals.
