They Went Virtual. You Can Too.

Remote Office and Branch Office Case Studies

Branch offices often have no IT staff, and are dependent upon the corporate office for IT support. Find out how organizations are reducing costs for their remote offices, and improving availability and provisioning time with Microsoft virtualization solutions.

Phitek

Since its modest beginnings in 2003, Phitek Systems Limited (Phitek) has established itself as a leader in audio technology in New Zealand and around the world. Phitek now has a presence in Auckland, China, America, Canada, Japan and Taiwan, employing around 90 people. Phitek’s growth has created the need for an efficient, flexible and reliable IT infrastructure to keep up with the company’s expansion.

By deploying Microsoft Windows Server 2008 with Hyper-V to enable server virtualisation, Microsoft Exchange 2007 and Office 2007, Phitek were able to create a harmonious global working environment for its employees and ensuring its intellectual property is secure across all its global offices.

Oury Clark

Chartered accountancy and solicitor group Oury Clark wanted a multiserver off-site disaster recovery solution that could meet strict data security standards. Microsoft® Gold Certified Partner Direct Communications Software Limited (DCSL) responded by deploying Windows Server® 2008 with Hyper-V™ virtualisation technology. Oury Clark has now saved £20,000 in hardware costs and created a flexible disaster recovery solution that can retrieve lost data within 10 minutes.

Caja de Compensacion Compensar

Caja de Compensacion (Compensar) is a health services provider in Colombia. Along with Cenet, a Microsoft® Gold Certified Partner, Compensar created MiPlanilla.com, a government-authorized Web site providing social security payment and management services. With a 150 percent increase in MiPlanilla.com users in 2008, the site required more server capacity and a better redundancy scheme to ensure high availability. Compensar addressed both issues with virtualization, using Windows Server® 2008 Datacenter with Hyper-V™ and System Center Virtual Machine Manager 2008. It not only avoided purchasing new servers, saving U.S. $75,000, but also consolidated existing servers by 66 percent, simplified management, and improved continuity. Compensar also virtualized mission-critical workloads, including SQL Server® databases, which help the site handle 30 percent more concurrent transactions.

VillageSoup

Richard Anderson is out to forge a new communications model that transforms community newspaper companies into virtual neighborhood companies. Anderson is Chief Executive Officer of VillageSoup, a software company in Maine. As the company grew through acquisitions, technology issues consumed ever more time. Anderson used Microsoft® virtualization technology to reduce the company’s server count by one-third, avoiding new hardware costs of roughly U.S.$25,000 and IT labor costs of about $83,000 annually. Anderson can now hire more talent to grow the business. Also, improved server reliability increases staff productivity.
