They Went Virtual. You Can Too.

Small and Medium Business Case Studies

Small and medium businesses need to keep IT expenditures in line while continuing to provide quality service. Find out how Microsoft virtualization solutions offer a low-cost way to simplify provisioning, improve systems management and enable availability and business continuity—without increasing IT overhead.

Digiturk

DIGITURK is the only digital broadcasting company in Turkey, reaching more than 2 million subscribers with more than 170 television, radio, interactive, and music channels. With the need to continually roll out new broadcast services and contain operating costs, DIGITURK used the Microsoft® core-infrastructure optimization model to make strategic technology decisions. It deployed Windows Server® 2008 with Hyper-V™ technology to speed server deployment and reduce costs, and used Microsoft System Center data center solutions to monitor, back up, and manage physical and virtual servers. With these efficiencies, the DIGITURK IT staff can respond to business needs much faster and improve service availability. DIGITURK has trimmed 30 servers to 2 and runs 51 virtual machines on those 2 hosts. The company has reduced infrastructure expenses by 40 percent and support costs by 80 percent.

T2 Systems

T2 Systems offers a unified, hosted solution for parking management—a unique offering for the industry. As demand for its solution grew, the company had to add physical servers to its environment—a costly, time-consuming process. T2 implemented Windows Server® 2008 Hyper-V™ virtualization technology and virtual servers, eliminating 32 physical servers. As a result, it reduced server and licensing costs, improved scalability, and enhanced customer service.

Hassell

HASSELL is a multidisciplinary design practice with 12 studios across Australia and Asia. In 2007, the company decided to develop a single platform for its project management, time billing and accounting systems, choosing Microsoft Dynamics® AX. However, the application suite would require heavy investment in new server infrastructure: besides the live environment, the technology team needed an ongoing test and development environment to help integrate updates and new applications after the initial roll-out. In April 2008, HASSELL decided to deploy Microsoft Dynamics® AX using Microsoft’s virtualisation product – Hyper-VTM. This cut the number of new servers required by HASSELL from over 20 to seven. In addition, virtualisation has provided the team with permanent test and development facilities and dramatically improved the resilience of the company’s core information systems platform.

Confederation of Danish Industry

The Confederation of Danish Industry (DI) is a private lobbying organization that provides counsel on international and local business issues for 12,000 member companies. Technology is essential to enabling its 670 employees to exchange information with the members who fund the organization. With just seven people on the IT infrastructure staff, DI needed a more efficient and cost-effective way to deploy and manage the servers on which its communication system depends. Using the Windows Server® 2008 Datacenter operating system with Hyper-V™ and solutions from the Microsoft® System Center suite, DI cut the time needed to deploy servers from one month to 30 minutes, reduced its server count by 40 percent while expanding its server environment, and simplified management of its virtual and physical infrastructure.
