Microsoft has more than 400 sales and development branch offices around the world, and the Microsoft Field IT organization is responsible for providing IT services to employees working in those offices. To speed the rollout of basic infrastructure services, raise service availability, and minimize the work of managing branch servers, Microsoft is using Windows Server 2008 Hyper-V technology to run these services on virtual machines. It is also deploying Microsoft System Center solutions to simplify the management of remote servers. Using virtualization, Microsoft can increase the availability and security of infrastructure services and reduce time spent deploying and managing servers. Virtualization also helps Microsoft Field IT dynamically meet evolving business needs such as opening new offices and integrating acquisitions faster.
