Shasta Head Start
As a nonprofit agency, Shasta Head Start is always looking for ways to improve efficiency and reduce costs. Its small IT departmentfour full-time staff and one part-time volunteermade significant strides toward those goals by virtualizing many of the agency's servers with Windows Server 2008 R2 Hyper-V technology, but it still faced challenges with managing that infrastructure. Also, monitoring the health of all the agency's physical computers, which were distributed across 24 locations, was a time-consuming, manual process. To proactively manage both its physical and virtual environments, Shasta Head Start implemented Microsoft System Center Essentials 2010, which offers a unified management console and built-in Virtual Machine Manager technology. As a result, the agency increased IT efficiency and improved the health of its IT environment while reducing costs.
