The Databases workspace helps you manage databases and run queries. To access this workspace, click Databases in the workspace selector of WebMatrix.

New Database

Creates a new SQL Server Compact database.

New Connection

Creates a new connection to an existing SQL Server database, SQL Server Compact database, or MySQL database.

New Table

Creates a new database table.

New Query

Creates a new database query.

Execute

Runs a database query.

Migrate

Migrates a SQL Server Compact database to SQL Server.

Install

Installs SQL Server Express.

New Table

Creates a new table.

Definition

Lets you create and modify a table definition (schema).

Data

Displays table data.

New Column

Adds a column to a table.

Delete Column

Removes a column from a table.

New (Relationship)

Creates a new relationship between tables.

View (Relationship)

Displays existing relationships between tables.

Delete (Relationship)

Removes a relationship between tables.

New (Indexes)

Creates a new index.

View (Indexes)

Displays existing indexes.

Delete (Indexes)

Deletes an index from a table.

Refresh

Refreshes the data in a table.

Delete Row

Deletes one row from a table.

Create a new SQL Server Compact database

Click New Database in the ribbon.

Delete a database

Right-click the database in the navigation pane and then click Delete.

Create a new database connection

Click New Connection in the ribbon, enter connection information, and then click OK. For more information, see Connecting to a SQL Server or MySQL Database in WebMatrix.

Migrate a database from SQL Server Compact to SQL Server

Add a table and define its structure

Select the database in the navigation pane and click New Table in the ribbon. WebMatrix opens the table designer. In the Column Properties pane, set the name and additional data properties. To add another column, click New Column.

You can specify a name for the table when you save it.

Delete a table

Right-click the table in the navigation pane and click Delete Table.

Change the structure of a table

Select the table in the navigation pane and click Definition in the ribbon. Select the column (field) to modify. In the Column Properties pane, modify the field values.

View the structure of a table

Right-click the table in the navigation pane and click Definition.

Add data to a new table

Select the table in the navigation pane and click Data in the ribbon. Add rows to the end of the listing.

Update data in a table

Select the table in the navigation pane and click Data in the ribbon. Modify data in the content pane.

Delete data from a table

Select the table in the navigation pane and click Data in the ribbon. Delete data in the content pane.

Create a query

Select the database in the navigation pane and click New Query in the ribbon. Enter a SQL statement and click Execute in the ribbon.

Execute a query

While the query is displayed in the content pane, select Execute in the ribbon.
