CARLOS R. GUEVARA
He has over 12 years experience developing Web applications with Microsoft technology and over 15 years developing Web applications in general. At the beginning of the ‘90s he was one of the persons in charge of connecting the three main Higher Education institutions of Panama to the INTERNET and since then he has devoted his career to leveraging said net for business technologies. He acted as Pre-Sales Support Manager of the Systems Division of the Panama-based company SONITEL, where he was responsible for ”evangelizing” the technologies for the multinational company SUN Systems and its new-born JAVA technology. Then he founded his own company, Velu Software, devoted exclusively to developing business distributed applications. In 1998 Microsoft awarded him with an Ad Honorem position called Regional Director, which has been awarded to him every year since then. He is the only person in Panama who has received such an award. Microsoft has also awarded the company Velu Software with two (2) awards as “Independent Software Vendor” of the year for the Region - , the only company in Panama to receive such an honor, given to those companies with the highest innovation in development.
His participation is significant in Web projects for agencies such as the Panama Canal Authority, Panama Credit Association, Ministry of Economy and Finance of Panama, General Treasury of the Republic of Panama and many local and international private banks and bodies. He has also been a keynote speaker for international events such as TechEd USA in Dallas in 2003 and TechEd Hong Kong 2004 as well as MS Developer Days Peru and Ecuador in 2006.

Carlos Lone is a Systems, Information Technology and Computer Science engineer, and he has recently earned an MBA and is about to start studies for a Masters in Project Administration. He acts as a Software Architect for ICASA, working for the establishment of Best Development Practices and is in charge of the assessment and certification of the architecture used by information systems. His work focuses on directing development teams for the right use of existing technologies or new trends, as well as ensuring the quality of the developed software. I founded my own development company with a friend when I was 18 and then another small company with university mates. I have always been my own boss (I like the business world). I have developed software for Bimbo, OSINERG, CIMAGRAF, LIMAVISION, PERUVISION, and others. I believe that technology is not only to research, but to take advantage of, so, just out of curiosity and effort. I have always believed in self-learning. I firmly believe that educational institutions only teach us 10 or 20 per cent of what we need, but a good book, some magazines, many conversations and plenty of observation of the world, from what the manager of a multinational company shows us to what the candy shop assistant at the corner recommends, that is what will really prepare us for what’s coming next (and if it does not come, we make it come). I am a vegetarian, I love reading, I love music.
