Updated: December 4, 2001

The Microsoft Windows 2000 operating system supports PCI interrupt routing on non-ACPI machines when the following conditions are true:

The BIOS provides IRQ routing information using either $PIR (as defined in the Microsoft PCI IRQ Routing specification) or the PCI BIOS real-mode interface.

Windows 2000 supports the chipset. Supported chipsets are listed in the following table.

Testing. The following test procedure is recommended, in addition to using CardBus devices for your daily work:

1.

Insert a CardBus card.

2.

Ensure the device is detected and installed correctly.

3.

Verify that the card functions correctly.

4.

Go to the Power Management control panel and enable hibernate support if it is not already enabled.

5.

Hibernate the machine from the Start/Shutdown menu.

6.

Wake the machine.

7.

Verify that the card still works correctly.

8.

Remove the card using the Unplug/Eject Devices application on the tray.

9.

Remove the card and re-insert it.

10.

Verify that the card still works.

11.

Insert a second card (with the first card still present), and repeat steps 2-10.
