Windows Biometric Framework

The Windows Biometric Framework (WBF) is a new addition to Windows 7 that provides support for fingerprint biometric devices through a new set of components. These components include the following:

A driver interface definition.

A pluggable expansion platform.

A client API.

Support for fingerprint logon and User Account Control (UAC) through a credential provider.

Basic management capabilities.

Mechanisms to configure biometric fingerprint devices.

Integration points that can be used to launch third-party fingerprint management applications.

These components improve the quality, reliability, and consistency of the user experience for biometric fingerprint devices that are integrated with WBF.

You can find Windows biometric driver documentation in the Windows Driver Kit (WDK).
