This paper provides information about testing video capture drivers for the Microsoft Windows family of operating systems. A small number of mistakes lead to a large percentage of video capture driver problems. Driver writers can use a combination of older tools and recently released tools to debug video capture drivers in preparation for successful logo submission. This paper presents several commonly overlooked test scenarios and lists testing tools and where they can be found.
The paper closes with a Call to Action that describes high level strategies for avoiding common pitfalls when authoring a video capture driver for a Windows operating system.
An appendix includes a list of video capture device classifications, detailed definitions for each category, and logo requirements for the different device types.
This information applies for the following operating systems:
Microsoft Windows 2000
Microsoft Windows XP
Microsoft Windows Server 2003
