TCP Chimney Licensing

Updated: August 7, 2007

Microsoft has entered into a licensing agreement with a San Jose, California-based company named Alacritech relating to a new high speed networking technology called TCP offload engine (TOE) or TCP Chimney.

Microsoft's license is for software and does not extend to networking hardware. Alacritech sells and licenses networking hardware separately. A full list of licensed hardware vendors is available on Alacritech's Web site (http://www.alacritech.com/html/IP_Licensing.shtml This link leaves the Microsoft.com site). If you plan to support TCP Chimney offload in your products, you should work with your network hardware provider to determine whether or not they need a license from Alacritech.
