Windows Imaging Component

Still image peripherals include digital cameras and scanning devices such as sheet-fed, flatbed, handheld, and film scanners. All imaging peripherals should use USB or IEEE 1394 to connect to PC systems.

Windows driver support is provided under Windows Image Acquisition (WIA).

WIA is both an application programming interface (API) and a device driver interface (DDI). WIA supports still digital cameras and scanners. It allows retrieving still images from IEEE 1394-based digital video (DV) camcorders and USB-based "web cams."
