This paper provides information about security-related best practices for Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) drivers for the Microsoft Windows family of operating systems. It provides guidelines for driver developers (typically the hardware vendor) to develop their drivers so that they will function correctly, both under the high-privilege LocalSystem account (such as in Microsoft Windows XP) or the low-privilege LocalService account (such as in Microsoft Windows Server 2003 and later).
