Microsoft Windows Server 2008 supports hot addition of memory, which was introduced in Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1 (SP1). Windows Server 2008 adds the following support for dynamic hardware partitioning:

This paper provides a brief overview of dynamic hardware partitioning and the architecture of Windows Server 2008 support. The focus of this paper is to introduce guidelines for driver developers, to help ensure that their device drivers function properly in partitionable systems.
