Windows Logo Kit 1.4 QFE 002 Is Now Available on Connect

QFE 002 for Windows Logo Kit (WLK) 1.4 is now available for download on the WLK Connect site (https://connect.microsoft.com/site/sitehome.aspx?SiteID=668). This QFE is required for all Device categories for Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2.

This QFE fixes the following device fundamentals tests:

Plug & Play Driver Test – QFE 002 fixes the following two issues:

Problem where the test was running against boot devices and/or children of boot devices, which was incorrectly disabling those devices.

Problem of false failures caused by a veto of an IRP by a child device.

Device Install Check for Other Device Stability Test – QFE 002 fixes the following two issues:

“Interop” failures, caused by a failure to load an assembly.

“Strongname validation” failure. A workaround for this failure had been published previously. This QFE incorporates that workaround and automates it from the DTM Controller.

Reinstall with IO Test – This QFE addresses the issue with collecting the setupapi logs. In certain cases, the test was failing early in a loop due to a secondary issue, resulting in failure to return the logs. This has now been addressed.

Notes:

This QFE is for use with WLK 1.4 RTM (version 1.4.7100.000).

Before applying the QFE, close all active DTM Studio sessions. Applying this QFE might affect any submissions in progress. Please complete any submissions before applying this QFE.

After installing this QFE, you will need to regenerate any affected submission that was created before the QFE was installed.

(Announcement Date: July 7, 2009)

Windows Logo Kit 1.4 QFE 010 Is Now Available on Connect

QFE 010 for Windows Logo Kit (WLK) 1.4 is now available for download on the WLK Connect site (https://connect.microsoft.com/site/sitehome.aspx?SiteID=668). This QFE is required for the Windows 7 Logo Program for the Input > Digitizer Windows Touch device category.

This QFE resolves the issues with the Windows Touch Logo Test (Manual) where the placement of the lines and boxes in the test on smaller form factors (such as small screen sizes) can lead to false failures. In some cases, the user might be unable to complete the testing properly because the lines either are drawn too close together or are drawn off the screen. This fix adjusts the line and box placements for better scaling with smaller form factor designs, enabling the test to perform as expected.

Notes:

This QFE is for use with WLK 1.4 RTM (version 1.4.7100.00).

Windows Logo Kit 1.4 QFE 011 Is Now Available on Connect

QFE 011 for Windows Logo Kit (WLK) 1.4 is now available for download on the WLK Connect site (https://connect.microsoft.com/site/sitehome.aspx?SiteID=668). This QFE is required for all System categories for all operating systems. This QFE includes all fixes previously published in QFE 004.

This QFE resolves issues with the “Signed Driver Check” test in the systems kit. The two fixes included in this QFE are:

Fix to avoid the test crashes in certain specific scenarios. The test will now finish and log in all cases.

Fix for incorrect failure of this test for drivers that have no associated hardware device IDs. This QFE also includes the fix for logolevel for Windows 7 qualifications that was previously released through QFE 004.

Notes:

Uninstall QFE 004 before installing QFE 011.

Windows Logo Kit 1.4 QFE 013 Is Now Available on Connect

QFE 013 for Windows Logo Kit (WLK) 1.4 is now available for download on the WLK Connect site (https://connect.microsoft.com/site/sitehome.aspx?SiteID=668). This QFE is required for all submissions for the Streaming Media and Broadcast Devices > Broadcast Receiver Proprietary device category.

This QFE fixes an issue that was causing an immediate failure with an error message stating that your tuner filter could not be located, even when a valid filter was provided. With this QFE, your tuner filter will be located accurately, thereby preventing that failure.

Notes:

Any submissions within this device category will continue to require a manual review before approval.

Before applying the QFE, close all active DTM Studio sessions. Applying this QFE might affect any submissions in progress. Please complete any submissions before applying this QFE.

After installing this QFE, you will need to regenerate any affected submissions that were started before installing this QFE.

Revised Policy: Submissions Must Use Windows Vista Service Pack 2 Beginning March 3, 2010

We previously announced that effective August 17, 2009, all Windows Vista submissions must use Windows Vista Service Pack 2 (SP2). Due to late-breaking news about the availability of the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) Preinstallation Kit (OPK) for Windows Vista SP2, we are moving the effective date for this requirement to March 3, 2010. We encourage all partners to test with the latest service pack as soon as possible.

Windows Logo Kit 1.4 QFE 003 Is Now Available on Connect

QFE 003 to Windows Logo Kit (WLK) 1.4 is now available for download at the WLK Connect site (https://connect.microsoft.com/site/sitehome.aspx?SiteID=668). This QFE fixes several problems related to the local area network (LAN), wireless LAN (WLAN), and Mobile Broadband Networking (MBN) programs in WLK 1.4. These improvements affect only the MBN, LAN, and WLAN programs; all other network-related programs remain unchanged. QFE 003 addresses the following problems:

MBN: Job results were not filterable by errata. Updated job allows errata to be applied.

WLAN: Blocked test case in softap_oids_ext changed to skipped test case, allowing the test to continue running.

WLAN: Several possible bug checks in the test SoftAP fixed.

WLAN: Resolved issue in SoftAP_Notifications_ext test suite where device indications are not reliably received by our test harness.

LAN: There is a planned operating system change to disable wake-on patterns that are currently in power management (PM) capabilities if the physical device does not support low power offloads. This means that for most devices, the default out-of-the-box behavior will be to wake on magic packet only. The tests have been updated to enable wake on LAN (WoL) before querying capabilities.

LAN: Support device now unbinds protocols automatically before running WoL and PM tests.

(Announcement Date: June 30, 2009)

Windows Logo Kit 1.4 QFE 007 Is Now Available on Connect

QFE 007 for Windows Logo Kit (WLK) 1.4 is now available for download on the WLK Connect site (https://connect.microsoft.com/site/sitehome.aspx?SiteID=668). This QFE is required for the Windows 7 Logo Program for Windows Media Center IR v2 emulator devices. It is required only for emulator devices and not for any other IR device.

This QFE resolves an issue where a Windows Media Center IR emulator device would always fail Test 28 (InvalidDeviceCommands) because the test failed to send the data necessary for the device to successfully pass the test. You will not be able to certify a Windows Media Center IR emulator device without this QFE.

(Announcement Date: June 30, 2009)

Windows Logo Kit 1.4 QFE 008 Is Now Available on Connect

QFE 008 to the Windows Logo Kit (WLK) version 1.4 is now available for download at the WLK Connect site (https://connect.microsoft.com/site/sitehome.aspx?SiteID=668).

This QFE addresses multiple issues for the Storage Optical test for Windows 7 devices:

The test case for the READ CAPACITY command was not exercised properly for DVD-ROM models and immediately terminated with false failure. This has been fixed.

For slot drives, tray status sense code checks now accept wider range additional sense code qualifiers (ASCQs) based on current language in the Multi-Media Commands - 6 (MMC-6) specification.

The command performance check test case is up-to-date with the latest logo program requirements, and fixed to run after every profile in order to give partner feedback about device performance for each scenario.

This QFE is not a filter update. If a filter has not already been applied to your test, this QFE will not change the status of that test.

This QFE is for use with WLK 1.4 RTM (version 1.4.7100.0).

(Announcement Date: June 30, 2009)

Reminder: Logo-Qualified Systems and Servers Must Contain Only Logo-Qualified Devices

In order for a PC system or server to qualify for a particular Windows logo, all components of the system or server must be logo-qualified for the same operating system (OS). For example, for a desktop system to qualify for a Windows 7 logo, it must comply with the Windows 7 Logo Program requirements and must include only Windows 7 logo-qualified devices.

A system can qualify for a logo with devices that use drivers that ship with the OS. We recommend that you test using the final device drivers that will be shipping in the system because this is what the end user will experience.

Help Improve the Windows Logo System

We invite your participation in the 2009 Logo System User Survey (https://connect.microsoft.com/Survey/Survey.aspx?SurveyID=8400&SiteID=668). Every year, we use the data from this survey to inform our decisions and direct our investments in the Windows Log Kit (WLK) and Windows Quality Online Services (Winqual). Please help us make the right investments by taking a few moments to complete this brief survey. The survey is live now and will remain available through the end of May.

In the 2008 survey you told us:

Small lab scenarios are the primary scenarios.

Partner perception of the WLK has improved significantly since 2007.

Failure diagnosis is the top priority for improving the WLK.

As a direct result of your feedback we have done the following:

Begun work on a tool that will enable users to run individual logo program tests without the Device Test Manager (DTM). This tool will also have improved diagnostic features.

Continued to focus on delivering a stable DTM with predictable WLK releases.

Extensively reworked driver reliability tests.

Introducing the Windows 7 Starter Logo

We are introducing a new logo for original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to use with PCs that have Window 7 Starter preinstalled. The new logo for Windows 7 Starter helps customers differentiate PCs that come with Windows 7 Starter from PCs that have other editions of Windows 7 installed. The new logo displayed on PCs running Windows 7 Starter will differentiate these PCs and, in combination with marketing and informational material, will help customers make informed choices about the edition of Windows 7 that they are getting.

The hardware requirements for the Windows 7 logo and the Windows 7 Starter logo are the same, so PCs running Windows 7 Starter can be upgraded to any Windows 7 edition. Windows 7 Starter can be pre-installed on only a certain set of systems as defined by the licensing hardware criteria outlined in the OEM Preinstallation Kit (OPK).

Introducing the Windows Touch Test Lab

Windows Touch is a new feature in the Windows 7 operating system that allows users to control Windows and their applications using multitouch input. The Windows Touch Test Lab is a Microsoft facility to help partners to validate the quality of their multitouch digitizers for use with Windows Touch, and to provide the testing services necessary to qualify multitouch devices for the Windows 7 Logo Program.

Windows Touch is a new additional qualification (AQ) and set of standards in the Windows 7 Logo Program, for devices and systems that support multitouch input. Given the importance of the quality of the multitouch user experience, Windows Logo Kit (WLK) 1.4 includes not only automated tests for this AQ but also a suite of manual tests such as tapping, gesturing, and drawing lines and arcs on the touchscreen.

We also require that the Windows Touch Test Lab run the Windows Touch tests on devices as the final validation step of logo qualification (this validation step is not required for system submissions). To submit hardware to the lab or to learn more about the lab, see the Windows Touch Test Lab whitepaper on the WHDC Web site (http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/device/input/WindowsTouch_Test-Lab.mspx).

New Windows HD Imaging AQ

Microsoft has added an additional qualification (AQ) to the Windows 7 Logo Program, called Windows HD Imaging. This AQ identifies devices and software that capture high fidelity color images and preserve that fidelity through image editing and printing with Windows.

For Consumers

Windows HD Imaging devices and software capture, edit, and print high precision color without loss of fidelity. Cameras that use raw or HD Photo format capture the scene with more precision than JPEG. This means that colors are truer, gradients are smoother and details are sharper. Camera manufacturers provide Windows Imaging Component (WIC) codecs that allow Windows and Windows-based applications to handle raw images. Applications that support WIC and Windows Color System (WCS) can open the raw or HD Photo file for editing – preserving the precise color information captured by the camera – and print through the XML Paper Specification (XPS) print path. Printers using XPS can then process the HD Photo content and print a high fidelity image from this content.

The Windows HD Imaging AQ makes it easier to identify devices and software that support these imaging technologies and create a high fidelity end-to-end imaging experience with Windows.

For Hardware Partners

The Windows HD Imaging AQ rewards the investments you have already made in your devices to support high fidelity content. Printers that support XPS, the XPS print schema, color fidelity tests, and the Windows 7 logo tests qualify for the Windows HD Imaging AQ. Cameras that support raw images and provide WIC codecs for 32-bit and 64-bit Windows or cameras that directly support HD Photo also qualify. The AQ will create a common language for customers looking to capture and print high fidelity images.

Call to Action

Read the Windows HD Imaging AQ requirements in LogoPoint on the Windows Quality Online Services (Winqual) Web site (https://winqual.microsoft.com/).

Windows Server Logo Support for Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE)

Today, Microsoft supports a broad range of enterprise-class storage technologies, including Internet Small Computer System Interface (iSCSI), Fibre Channel, and SAS. As the adoption rate for storage networks increases, a broader set of customers are realizing the benefits of storage networking with the Windows platform.

Some Windows Server ecosystem storage partners are implementing support for FCoE as part of their datacenter strategy. To help our customers succeed with Windows in these environments, Microsoft is creating Logo Program test requirements for FCoE adapters. FCoE adapters include FCoE host bus adapters (HBAs), converged network adapters (CNAs) operating in FCoE mode, and 10 Gigabit Ethernet (10GbE) server adapters that support FCoE. After these requirements are completed, storage independent hardware vendors (IHVs) can obtain the Windows Server Qualified logo for these adapters, which will support their use on physical servers as well as with Hyper-V running in the parent partition.

The following tentative timelines for the Logo Program are subject to change:

Preview Logo Kit: December 2009

Release Logo Kit: June 2010

Partners can submit FCoE adapters for Windows Server 2008 and Windows Server 2008 R2 logos. The dates listed above are estimated dates and are subject to change.

Because FCoE defines a new transport, existing logo categories for Fibre Channel adapters in the Windows Logo Program cannot be used to certify FCoE adapters or their corresponding drivers.

Before June 2010, miniport drivers for FCoE adapters are eligible for a signature only. Submissions must be made under the Unclassified category.

HBA vendors shipping CNAs must use a different driver name for FCoE miniport drivers. This enables a device to obtain a logo for the existing Fibre Channel HBAs and corresponding miniport drivers through the standard process while submitting the FCoE driver separately under Unclassified for a signature.

Microsoft continues to work with our key storage ecosystem partners who are developing FCoE products and solutions, to refine requirements to make this technology compatible with the Windows platform.

In the area of storage networking, Microsoft continues to support and promote innovation for iSCSI and Fibre Channel in physical and virtual environments, for small, medium, and enterprise customers. Future support for FCoE hardware complements our strategy to offer a broad range of protocol options and solutions with the Windows platform.

For additional information, see “Important Notice Regarding Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCOE) Submissions” (http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/whql/resources/news/WHQLNews_061708.html), originally published in the June 2008 Windows Logo Program Newsletter.

Overview of Windows Server 2008 and Windows Server 2008 R2 Logo Testing

The following list describes which versions of the Windows Logo Kit (WLK) apply to the various Windows Server logo programs:

WLK 1.2:

Windows Server 2003 system

Windows Server 2003 device

Windows Server 2008 system

Windows Server 2008 device

WLK 1.3:

Windows Server 2003 device

Windows Server 2008 device

WLK 1.4:

Windows Server 2003 system

Windows Server 2003 device

Windows Server 2008 system

Windows Server 2008 device

Windows Server 2008 R2 system

Windows Server 2008 R2 device

System testing details:

WLK 1.4 will not contain 64-bit Windows Server 2008 tests. You must use the Windows Server 2008 R2 tests in WLK 1.4 for all 64-bit testing. Systems that pass Windows Server R2 64-bit testing will also be granted the Windows Server 2008 logo.

There is no Windows Server 2008 R2 x86 logo program, because there is no 32-bit version of Windows Server 2008 R2. You can still achieve the Windows Server 2008 x86 logo using WLK 1.4 and the following steps:

The system must pass Windows Server 2008 R2 x64 testing.

The system must run the Windows Server 2008 x86 test in WLK 1.4.

Submission can then be made.

Systems that qualify for the Windows Server 2008 logo must be refreshed using the Windows Server 2008 R2 tests in WLK 1.4 in order to gain the Windows Server 2008 R2 logo.

Systems that achieved Windows Server 2008 Supported status must be retested for Windows Server 2008 R2 Supported status.

Systems that earn some Windows Server 2008 R2 additional qualifications (AQs) will automatically be granted the same AQs for Windows Server 2008. This includes the High Availability, Fault Tolerant, and Dynamic Partitioning AQs.

New and Updated Tests for Windows Driver Foundation Drivers

As part of the device fundamentals, we are introducing new and updated tests that validate the reliability and compliance of Windows Driver Foundation (WDF) drivers. These tests will apply to all categories of devices that can use WDF drivers, for example Network Driver Interface Specification (NDIS) devices, input devices, input filter devices, Universal Serial Bus (USB) devices, Peripheral Component Interconnect (PCI) devices, Windows Portable Devices (WPDs), and Sideshow devices.

The key WDF tests that are being introduced are:

WDF Logo test for KMDF drivers

Verify WDF co-installer version

Updated "Run INFTest against a single INF" test

WDF Logo Test for KMDF Drivers

This test will validate a driver developed using the Kernel-Mode Driver Framework (KMDF) with respect to DEVFUND-0037 and DEVFUND-0038 requirements. It ensures that the KMDF driver is architected to maximize reliability and stability without "leaking" resources, and that the driver is designed to handle device driver interface (DDI) failures gracefully.

This test is available in Windows Logo Kit (WLK) 1.3 as a Preview test. At this time, this test will not automatically appear in the test list for any device logo program, but interested partners can execute this test from the Job Explorer under the Device Fundamentals path.

Note: Effective with WLK 1.4, all WDF drivers must pass this test.

All partners who develop WDF drivers are strongly encouraged to use this test from Job Explorer in WLK 1.3 to test their drivers. Detailed information on this test is available in WLK 1.3 release notes and WLK 1.3 Help documentation.

Verify WDF Co-Installer Version

This test will confirm whether drivers are packaged to contain the RTM fre versions of WDF redistributables, in compliance with the DEVFUND-0039 requirement.

Note: At Windows 7 RC, this test will block WDF drivers that are packaged with WDF 1.9 RC redistributable bits, when tested on Windows Vista or Windows Server 2008. At Windows 7 RTM, this test will pass those drivers on those operating systems.

When tested on Windows 7 or Windows 7 R2 operating systems, WDF drivers will pass this test regardless of the redistributable bits that are packaged.

This test will be introduced in WLK 1.4.

Update to the "Run INFTest against a single INF" Test

We are updating the existing "Run INFTest against a single INF" test to check for compliance with the DEVFUND-0040 requirement. The updated test will check whether WDF driver INF files are properly structured.

The updated "Run INFTest against a single INF" Test will be available in WLK 1.4.

Note: With the release of WLK 1.4, all WDF drivers must pass this test.

Microsoft started trimming the incoming crash reports for the following versions of Windows on March 2nd, 2009:

Microsoft Windows XP (all versions)

Microsoft Windows Server 2003 (all versions)

Microsoft Windows Vista RTM (all versions)

Microsoft Windows Vista SP1 (all versions)

We will continue to process all reports for the following versions:

Microsoft Windows 7 (all versions)

Microsoft Windows Server 2008 (all versions)

Microsoft Windows Vista SP2 (all versions)

Windows Logo Kit 1.3 QFE 006 Is Now Available on Connect

QFE 006 to the Windows Logo Kit (WLK) version 1.3 is now available for download at the WLK Connect site (https://connect.microsoft.com/site/sitehome.aspx?SiteID=668). This QFE updates the Smart Card Minidriver test category. After applying this QFE, smart card minidrivers that implement two-key Triple DES (TDES) for challenge-response authentication can get certification. The QFE also changes the RSA Encryption/Decryption test by encrypting and then decrypting a 32-byte buffer that resembles a typical symmetric key instead of plaintext.

This QFE is for use with WLK 1.3 RTM (version 1.3.7000.xx).

(Announcement Date: March 10, 2009)

Windows Logo Kit 1.3 QFE 004 Is Now Available on Connect

QFE 004 to the Windows Logo Kit (WLK) version 1.3 is now available for download at the WLK Connect site (https://connect.microsoft.com/site/sitehome.aspx?SiteID=668). This QFE updates the Unclassified test category by removing unnecessary tests for the Windows Vista, Windows XP, and Windows Server 2003 operating systems.

Currently, some unnecessary tests in the Unclassified category are exposed for operating systems prior to Windows 7. For example, the "Reinstall with IO" test should apply only to Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008 and Windows 7, but was wrongly applied to Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 also. Similarly, the "PNPDTest with concurrent IO in parallel with DevPathExer" test is valid for Windows 7 only, but was exposed in WLK 1.3 for earlier operating systems. QFE 004 addresses these problems and exposes Unclassified tests properly for all operating systems.

You must install this QFE before you start testing the Unclassified category, because the QFE changes wizard pages.

Important: Beginning March 15, 2009, this QFE will be mandatory for all Unclassified device submissions using WLK 1.3, for all operating systems earlier than Windows 7.

If you have already started testing for the Unclassified category with WLK 1.3, you can complete your testing without the QFE and make your submissions until March 15, 2009. In this case, you must include the Errata ID number 1184 in the Readme.doc file packaged with your submission, to refer to this issue. This erratum will allow waiver of failures for the wrongly exposed tests. There is no need to open a support case for this issue.

This QFE is for use with WLK 1.3 RTM (version 1.3.7000.xx).

(Announcement Date: March 3, 2009)

Windows Logo Kit 1.3 QFE 002 Is Now Available on Connect

QFE 002 to WLK 1.3 is now available for download at the WLK Connect site (https://connect.microsoft.com/site/sitehome.aspx?SiteID=668).

This QFE fixes the following problems with several device fundamental tests common to many test categories:

"Reinstall with IO" test. The QFE fixes multiple problems with this test, such as hangs, false failures, false passes, and so on. After the QFE is applied, the test will run properly on Windows 7 and Windows Vista and will report the correct test results.

"PNPDTest with concurrent IO in parallel with DevPathExer" test. The QFE fixes multiple issues with this test, which is applicable for Windows 7 only.

"Device Path Exerciser" test. The QFE fixes problems with this test involving null drivers.

After installing this QFE, partners can preview the new tests properly (as it addresses the hangs and the wrong test results). Although this QFE is not mandatory, it is strongly recommended for testing for all device submissions on all operating systems using WLK 1.3 RTM (version 1.3.7000.xx).

QFE 002 is not required for Systems Logo submissions.

We have removed all expired errata from the DTM errata filter page on the Winqual Web site, so searches for currently active errata should now be easier and faster. To find any expired errata, use the Sort menu on the DTM errata filter page.

New ID System for Errata

Currently, each published erratum has two different IDs: the Errata Filter ID that is published to partners and the DTM Errata ID that is used for internal tracking. This has caused some confusion, so beginning with the March update of the Winqual Web site, the DTM Errata ID will be used for both external and internal purposes. All filter IDs that are currently published on the Winqual Web site will be converted to DTM Errata IDs.

Partners who use any existing filters must consult the Winqual Web site after March 12, 2009, to find the new IDs for the existing and future errata, and must use the new IDs in correspondence with Microsoft.

WLK 1.3 TCG TPM Integration Test Announcements

This information applies to platforms that include a Trusted Platform Module (TPM). The following important issues have been identified regarding the recently updated TCG TPM Integrate Test:

Some platforms do not automatically wake from sleep or hibernation. During the TPMSysInt task, the platform is put to sleep and into hibernation. Not all platforms wake as instructed and the test operator should manually wake or turn on the platform during the test as described in the updated test documentation. Manual interaction to wake the platform from sleep or hibernation does not affect the test results.

Windows Vista or Windows Server 2008 platforms fail TPMSysInt task sections PwrUnsealWithWrapKeyAndPCRsS3 or PwrUnsealWithWrapKeyAndPCRsS4. These two test sections were implemented incorrectly on Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 platforms. Errata will be published soon instructing Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 platforms to ignore the test results. The tests are correct for Windows 7, so OEMs should investigate failures on Windows 7 platforms.

Quote2Basic failures. A new section of the TPMSysInt task exercises the Quote2 TPM command. This command is not used by Windows Vista or Windows 7, but might be used in a future operating system feature. Microsoft wants OEMs to know whether their platforms have an issue and to work towards resolving the problem over time. This erratum is applicable for all operating system versions and will be published for Windows 7 platforms when the tooling is available. It is set to expire on June 1, 2010; if your company would like additional time to address the issue, please contact Microsoft.

ReadPubEK failures. A new section of the TPMSysInt task checks preconditions for TPM state at the start of the test. It incorrectly checks the state of ReadPubEK. The initial value for ReadPubEK at the start of the test is not defined in specifications or in the test setup instructions. An erratum has been published for Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 to ignore the initial value of ReadPubEK. The same erratum will be published for Windows 7 platforms when tooling is available.

Clarification on Windows System Integration Tests (WSIT) in WLK 1.3

WSIT tests are manual tests included in WLK 1.3. WSIT tests are used to improve the coverage for scenarios that are likely to produce different results when validated on diverse system hardware or may be impacted by OEM-preloaded software present on the system in test. We encourage all partners to run these tests with WLK 1.3. These tests will be eliminated from WLK 1.4 except for the following four tests -- Responsive and Ready, FirewallCheck, DEP, and WLAN Device Compliance. DEP and FirewallCheck tests will be automated.

Responsive and Ready -- For systems with a docking station, this test ensures that resume from S3 works when docked and an external video source is present.

FirewallCheck -- This test checks for any firewall by default. Microsoft requires that all systems ship with a firewall enabled.

DEP -- This test checks that Data Execution Prevention (DEP) is enabled.

WLAN Device Compliance -- This test ensures Wireless connectivity restores upon resume from S3.

WDDM 1.1 Optional on DX9 Hardware for Windows 7 until December 1, 2009

In December 2008, we pushed back the Direct3D 10 (GRAPHICS-0020) requirement date for Windows 7 to December 1, 2009. This was done in response to partner feedback that enforcing DX10 in June 2009 would not provide the desired eighteen-month notification for hardware changes.

Since then, we have received feedback that requiring the development of WDDM 1.1 drivers for D3D9 hardware would be essentially impossible given the schedules, and would affect the IHV ability to deliver quality WDDM 1.1 drivers for Windows 7 launch.

Hence, we are allowing DX9 hardware to be logoed with WDDM 1.0 drivers for Windows 7 systems, including desktop, mobile, and all-in-one form factors, until December 1, 2009.

This change has been incorporated in LogoPoint into the following two requirements:

GRAPHICS-0071 notes that WDDM 1.1 is optional for a display adapter or chipset based on the Direct3D v. 9 hardware architecture and shipping in a Windows 7 system (desktop, mobile, or all-in-one).

SYSFUND-00192 reflects the same from the systems perspective.
