Windows Vista Service Pack 1 releases to manufacturing (RTM)
On February 4th, 2008, Microsoft released Windows Vista SP1 to manufacturing (RTM) for the English, French, German, Spanish, and Japanese languages. This marks an important point in time for Windows Vista combined with our progress to date:
• Windows Vista has become the fastest selling operating system in history with over 100 million licenses sold.
• Microsoft, together with our ecosystem, has made great progress improving the overall quality and performance of Windows Vista.
• Today, customers have 10 times the number of Certified for Windows Vista Applications to choose from (from 254 at launch to over 2500 today). Of the100 of the top selling applications of December 2007, 98 are compatible with Windows Vista. Over 150 enterprise applications, such as antivirus and VPN software, have been updated to work with Windows Vista.
• 78,000 devices and components are supported by drivers on Windows Update and in Windows Vista, up from 34,000 in November 06
With this RTM, a number of processes start in order to deliver SP1 to customers:
• OEM partners will begin producing PCs with SP1 pre-installed. We expect availability of these systems to begin in April.
• We will begin producing boxed product (FPP) of Windows Vista that integrates Service Pack 1. These should start appearing in retail stores in April.
• We will begin manufacturing disks with Windows Vista SP1 for our enterprise customers that get our software via Volume Licensing. Enterprise customers should start receiving these in early March.
• In mid-march, we will release Windows Vista SP1 to Windows Update and the download center on Microsoft.com.
• In mid-April, we will begin delivering Windows Vista SP1 to Windows Vista customers using the automatic download capability of Windows Update. This means that we will begin automatic downloads of SP1 for customers who have chosen to have updates downloaded automatically.
• The remaining languages will be released to manufacturing in April.
Microsoft would like to thank you for all your work contributing to this exciting point for Windows Vista. Without your feedback and input, we would not have been able to deliver the new SP1. You will be notified as soon as SP1 is available for download, so you can ensure that your drivers are ready.
