Important Notice Regarding Windows Server 2008 Submissions
The job packaging of the CHKLogo-Signed Driver Test contains a problem that affects Windows Server 2008 Server System logo submissions. The problem causes false passes if devices or drivers that qualified only for Windows Vista are used in a Windows Server submission and causes false failures if devices and drivers that qualified only for Windows Server 2008 are used in the submission. This can impact the stability of the operating system. We have created a workaround that minimally impacts vendors and submissions of Windows Server 2008 systems. This workaround requires a small, one-time, manual intervention by the vendor's WHQL test team on the Driver Test Manager (DTM) controller that is used for logo testing of Windows Server 2008 systems. The fix is persistent and is removed only if the DTM controller is uninstalled. The change causes an antitampering message to appear, which can be ignored because this does not prevent submitting the results to Winqual. Instructions for the workaround are here.
Until we can create a more permanent solution, we will manually review all current and future Windows Server 2008 Server System submissions. The review takes only a small amount of time and, at the most, would add only one day to the time between system submission and appearance of the submission in the Windows Server Catalog. If we determine that a submission includes a driver that is not qualified for Windows Server 2008, we will notify the vendor and apply normal practices for Revoked submissions.
Windows Server 2008 Supported System Naming Mismatch Issue
Submissions to WHQL for Windows Server 2008 Supported systems that do not have exactly the same product name as the related Windows Server 2003 Logo Server System submission will not show the system in the Catalog as having been logo qualified for Windows Server 2003. Matching of the Windows Server 2003 and 2008 submissions is done on the product name. If these are different between the two submissions, the Windows Server 2008 Supported system Windows Server Catalog entry will not show the system as having been logo qualified for Windows Server 2003. Vendors must ensure they use exactly the same name for the Windows Server 2008 Supported submission as was previously used for the Windows Server 2003 logo submission to avoid this problem.
Windows Server 2008 Logo for Printing and Imaging Devices
Partners interested in certifying their devices for the Windows Server 2008 Logo may now do so. The Windows Server 2008 Logo provides similar testing to that of our current Windows Vista Basic Logo program, but exposes drivers to the rigors of running in a Windows Server environment. Any Windows Vista Premium Logo features implemented on the device or device driver will also be tested in this environment.
Logo testing for Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 are separate DTM test runs. The logo requirements, the tests, minimum system requirements for the operating system, and minimum capabilities of the system used for testing devices for the Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 Logos are different. The generated submission package from a DTM test run is specific to an operating system.
If a completed Winqual Submission Tool submission package includes more than one operating system, each operating system must contain passing results; otherwise, the entire WST submission package will fail Winqual validation.
