Device Test Manager (DTM) Newsgroup Resource
The newly established DTM Newsgroup is a free, un-moderated peer-to-peer forum for posting discussions related to DTM tests. This newsgroup has been created as a result of customer feedback and will serve as a mechanism for peer-to-peer support, information sharing, and discussion topics ranging from set-up questions to advanced areas such as using the command line interface to automate your DTM test passes. Although this is primarily a peer-to-peer forum, the Microsoft DTM product team will monitor these discussions and will look to this newsgroup as an important source of information to use in product planning.

Windows Logo Kit 1.0.b Released
The Windows Logo Kit 1.0.b (WLK) release is primarily a beta kit released for preview testing of the Longhorn Server logo tests. It also contains the preview tests for Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, and Windows Vista platforms that will be required with the logo program refresh in June 2007. No focus was given to additional improvements of the client kits, though some bugs fixes are found in this release.

WLK 1.0.b is not to be used for logo certification testing. Its intent is preview only. The currently accepted sources of test results for submitting are only from DTM (build 6000) and WLK 1.0.a released April 4, 2007.

To sign up for the Windows Logo Kit 1.0.b, get more information, or provide beta feedback please review the instructions posted here.

Acceptable Test kits for Logo submissions Clarified
Currently, only submissions which contain logs created DTM build 6000, WLK 1.0.a, and HCT 12.1 are accepted for logo submissions. You are not required to transition from DTM 6000 to WLK 1.0.a.

There will be a June release of the Windows Logo Kit (WLK) which will reflect the new logo standard going into effect June 1, 2007. HCT 12.1 retires, as previously announced, June 1, 2007. Once the June WLK release is made, there will be a 60 day transition period where submissions may be made using the older DTM 6000, WLK 1.0.a or the new WLK kits. After the transition period, only the June release WLK may be used.

New features in the 1.0.b release
This release includes DTM Harness and Infrastructure feature work as well as new server specific test content.

DTM Harness and Infrastructure
Logo Kit packaging - Improved Logo Kit packaging is previewed in this 1.0.b release of the WLK. This feature will provide flexibility, in future versions of the WLK, to allow separately installable logo kit packages. This will enable partners to install and update logo kits without having to completely reinstall the Driver Test Manager.

Logo Program Kit Content
Server Systems Kit
- Processor Virtualization Support Test - verifies x64 CPUs support Windows virtualization [Viridian], 'soft' fails on x86 and ia64 platforms
- Windows Hardware Error Architecture Test - ensures WHEA support exists in Server Systems
- Fault Tolerance Additional Qualification Test - ensures FT capable systems can correctly perform memory resynchronizations
- Dynamic Partitioning Additional Qualification Test - ensures DP capable systems meet associated requirements and specifications
- High Availability Additional Qualification Test - ensures Server System include the necessary components required to qualify for 'Highly Available' status

Server Device Kits - The Dynamic Partition Simulator and Tests make sure that device drivers function correctly in a dynamic partitioning capable system. Dynamic Partition Simulator and 'Tests' added to following device categories:
- Input / HID - KVM, Pointing Class, Keyboard
- Network - ISDN (CoNDIS/NDIS), ISDN Modem, Modem, Multi-port Serial, Ethernet, WinSock Direct
- USB Controllers and Hubs
- SmartCard
- Display adapters
- Storage Devices and Adapters - ATA, SATA , SAS, SCSI, FC, iSCSI, and Tape and Removable Media devices

New Device Category
- Windows Hardware Error Architecture Test - ensures that WHEA capable drivers perform to requirement and specification standards

Fixes in this 1.0.b release
While the primary focus of this release is to serve as a Beta for our partners in the server community, bug fix support for existing Logo Program Client content and DTM Harness improvement continues. These include fixes to errata and enhancements, based on partner feedback, Logofests, customer support and internal development, to significantly improve the reliability and stability of the DTM and Logo tests.

New Winqual Website Features Launching May 15th, 2007
We are pleased to announce improvements to the Winqual website, scheduled for launch on May 15th, 2007. Please note, the site will be unavailable briefly while we post these updates.

Based on the feedback we have received, the following new features are included in the release:
• Major improvements to the Driver Distribution Center
• Quick access to crash data per driver in earlier submissions
• The return of Driver Update Acceptable 'DUA' submissions
• New and Improved Winqual Submission Tool (WST 2.0)

WST 2.0 retires the use of HCT 12.1 test suite. The HCT version of WST will be removed from Winqual website. However, users needing to submit for HCT submissions after May 15th can still use 1.4.6.0 version of WST. You must use the WST 2.0 for DTM submissions. Contact winqual@microsoft.com if you do not already have the 1.4.6.0 version.

WST 1.0 HCT Instructions:
1. When using WST 1.4.6.0. if prompted to update, click 'No' and proceed.
2. WST 1.4.6 and WST 2.0.0.0 cannot be installed on the same machine. The MSI installer will return an error if installing an older build after a newer build is already installed.

New features incorporated into WST 2.0 include:
No Wizard- WST 2.0 removes the WST 1.0 Wizard allowing more control over managing preparation of submission packages.
Background Version Checking- WST 2.0 performs version checking in the background. No waiting for checking to complete.
Result Details Page Enhancements/UI Views-WST 2.0 improved the details page UI and functionality. View and manipulate pre-selected locales. No more selecting locales every instance of creating submission packages.
Streamline Signability- WST 2.0 runs driver Signability tests at the end of the submission package creation. Previous version ran Signability after each driver package was added to the WST page list.
Load/Save WST.xml file separately from CAB files- WST 2.0 allows loading and saving a WST.xml file to populate necessary data and assist in Driver Updates functionality.
Session Value Recall- WST 2.0 can recall previous/last driver/cpk and symbols paths, recently used files.
Driver Update Acceptable (DUA) submission - WST 2.0 supports Driver Update acceptable submissions. This allows users to update previously submitted drivers without having to retest.

HCT based submissions are permitted until June 1st, 2007. Note: HCT submissions must be created using the current WST 1.4.6.0 tool. Since installing WST 2.0 will remove version WST 1.4.6.0, if you plan to submit HCT based logs, you should install WST 2.0 on a separate machine. (If prompted to update WST 1.4.6.0 when launching the application, click 'No'.) If you plan to submit HCT based logs, do not install the new tool. If you need to obtain a copy of WST 1.4.6.0 after WST 2.0 is released, contact the Winqual team.

Examples: After the planned May 15th, 2007 Winqual Updates:
To make a WLK 2.0 submission: use WST 2.0
To make a WLK, DTM, or HCT DUA submission: use WST 2.0
To make a HCT New submission: use WST 1.4.6.0 (limited till June 1)
If you have any questions about these new website features, please contact the Winqual team
