Your company's quality assurance processes support testing driver functionality during the development phase. When the driver is complete, you can verify that your driver is compatible with Microsoft Windows and also submit your product for the Windows Logo Program. Hardware and drivers that pass the tests in the Windows Logo Kit (WLK) qualify for the Windows logo, driver distribution on Windows Update, and listing in the Windows Vista Compatibility Center. To test products by using the Windows Logo Program tests, follow these steps: 1. Obtain a code-signing ID. This ID is required for submitting your product to the Windows Logo Program, to ensure your organization is authentic and to secure transmission of drivers and test results to Microsoft. 2. Establish a Winqual account. A Windows Quality Online Services (Winqual) account is necessary to submit products to the Windows Logo Program. Be sure to: | • | Provide account administrators contact information. | | • | Sign the latest Logo License Agreement and Hardware testing agreement on the the Winqual site. | | • | Provide billing information. |
3. Review Windows Logo Program requirements and policies. Read the policies for testing your product with Windows operating systems, such as: | • | System policies | | • | Device policies | | • | Submission turnaround time | | • | Legal agreements | | • | Billing policies |
4. Install the WLK and run appropriate tests. | • | Driver Test Manager (DTM) automatically detects the appropriate tests. | | • | Run all tests listed in DTM for your product. | | • | For updates to DTM, see WLK - QFE Updates. | | • | Tip: Some tests are quite long and can be run overnight. Allow approximately four days to test systems and servers. | | • | Subscribe to the WHQL and Windows Logo Program Testing News for updates in test policies and processes. Previously published editions are available in the archives. |
Note: Technical support for the HCT kit ended on March 1, 2007. HCT kit testing was no longer accepted by Winqual as of June 8, 2007. After June 8, 2007, only DTM test results will be accepted for logo testing. 5. Solve test failures. Use a systematic strategy for solving failures encountered during testing and in test logs. DTM Testing | • | When testing with the DTM, you can automatically apply the errata by using the DTM Errata Filters available for download on the Winqual Web site. | | • | For information about DTM technical support, see Support Contacts for Procedures and Tools. |
6. Prepare your test submission for Winqual. After all test failures have been fixed or clearly resolved by errata or contingencies, you are now ready to submit your test logs and driver packages to the Windows Quality Online Services. See Qualify: Getting Started.
