Windows Defender: Vendor Dispute Form

If you are the vendor of a product that you believe has been incorrectly classified by Windows Defender, or if you have recently updated the behavior of your product and want it reclassified, you can contact the Microsoft research team with your concerns.

To begin the process of resolution, complete the following Vendor Dispute Report form. All of the required fields in the form (marked with an asterisk *) must be complete before the Windows Defender research team can initiate an investigation.

The research team will confirm the receipt of the form, contact you with follow-up questions if necessary, and provide the results of the investigation by e-mail through the contact information that you provide in the form. We will make every effort to expedite the process and respond in a timely manner.

The vendor dispute form does not apply to circumstances in which Windows Defender might have mistakenly identified one software program for another. In such a case, please fill out and submit the false positive report form.

Decisions about vendor disputes are based on the characteristics of the analyzed programs, the definition criteria, and the detection technology in Windows Defender as of the date of the analysis. For more information about these processes and criteria, read How Windows Defender identifies spyware.

Decisions are subject to change if:

  • Updated or modified versions of the software are available.

  • The definition criteria or detection technology employed by Windows Defender changes.

If you have questions about this form, you can contact Microsoft at mpcreply@microsoft.com. Note: You must first complete and submit the Vendor Dispute Report form to initiate the review process. Please submit your request in English if possible, as submissions in other languages may cause a longer response time or impair our ability to respond completely and correctly.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Microsoft is aware of third party software programs that try to resemble Microsoft software through deceptive naming and graphics in order to trick victims into providing personal and financial information. For support relating to an infection by fraudulent software, please contact Microsoft Help and Support. This web form is intended only for vendors who believe their software programs have been either incorrectly classified or mistakenly identified as another program by Windows Defender.
