Windows Desktop Search (WDS) 3.01, a legacy version of Windows Search for both 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Windows XP and Windows Server 2003, increases business productivity by enabling users to instantly find and retrieve e-mail messages and attachments, business documents, media files, and many other file types located on PCs and across company networks. The latest version, Windows Search 4.0, is now available for download.

| WDS 3.01 can be installed with an update.exe package or the new MSI package. The MSI for WDS 3.01 wraps the update.exe package so both packages are essentially the same. The MSI was created to help large scale deployments in corporations. If you are only installing WDS on a single machine, we recommend using the update.exe package. If you are planning a large scale deployment of WDS through a mechanism like Active Directory, the MSI package will better suit your needs.
