Windows Media Center Anywhere

Get your digital media on the road or in the den

If your PC is running Windows Vista Home Premium or Windows Vista Ultimate, you have Windows Media Center, a rich and versatile feature that allows you to enjoy your digital entertainment wherever you are—from a hotel to your neighborhood coffeehouse.

Access your entertainment on the go

When you're on the road, you can use your connected laptop or mobile device1 to enjoy live and recorded TV and movies stored on your home computer through the WebGuide plug-in. WebGuide allows you to remotely view your programming and the music, pictures, and videos on your Windows Media Center-based PC. Download WebGuide and access it from any machine that has a Web browser, including your cell phone. With this feature, even if you don't have a TV tuner installed in or connected to your PC, you can still access your digital media wherever you have a high-speed Internet connection.

Stream media anywhere in your home

Extender technology is built into home entertainment devices such as TVs, DVD players, and cool, quiet components. These Extenders for Windows Media Center allow you to leave your PC in the den, or wherever it makes sense—and use it as a "hub" to provide your digital entertainment to TVs throughout your home.

You can stream the digital media you have on your Windows Media Center-based PC to as many as five Extenders for Windows Media Center in your home2—with full HD video3 and surround sound. Use streamlined menus to access the live and recorded TV, music, movies, videos, sports, Internet TV, and other online content on your PC running Windows Vista Home Premium or Windows Vista Ultimate through your wired or wireless home network.

If you have an Xbox 3604, you may not know that it's also an Extender for Windows Media Center. Setup is easy, and soon you'll be cruising through Windows Media Center menus using your Xbox 360 anywhere in your home.

1A high-speed (100kbps minimum) Internet connection between the Windows Media Center-based PC and the mobile device is required to stream media. Service fees may apply, so check with your mobile service provider.

2 Windows Media Center supports as many as two NTSC Standard tuners and two ATSC HD TV tuners, for a maximum of four TV tuners in a Windows Media Center PC.

3 Enjoying live and recorded HDTV (U.S. only) may require additional equipment, including but not limited to an HD compatible tuner and TV or other display.

4 The Xbox 360 is the only Windows XP generation Extender for Windows Media Center that is compatible with Windows Vista.
