Before you install, make sure you have defragmented the hard drive and otherwise optimized your computer.

Optimization Checklist

Downloading from the Microsoft Download Center will place the Windows SteadyState Installation Wizard icon on your desktop for easy reference. Make sure you are logged on as an Administrator for the shared computer, then start the setup program by double clicking the icon on the desktop (or launching setup.exe from the disc if you're using one).

Windows SteadyState can only be installed on genuine versions of Windows XP and Windows Vista. After you launch the Installation Wizard, you'll be asked whether you want Microsoft to validate your installation of Windows XP or Windows Vista as genuine. If your installation cannot be validated, you will have an opportunity to obtain a valid product key at that time.
