HP Launches MediaSmart Home Server for Mac and PC
Hewlett-Packard refreshes its MediaSmart home server, which is based on Microsoft's Windows Home Server platform. The MediaSmart Home Servers ex485 and ex487, a 750GB model and a 1.5 TB model, allow users who own Apples and PCs to share and back up media files.

New HP MediaSmart home servers automatically back up Macs
Before, backing up files from Macs was a more manual process, typically requiring users to use Time Machine or other backup software from each individual Mac. The new EX485 and EX487 models rectify that by letting users set Time Machine backups from the server consoles.

HP debuts Mac-compatible MediaSmart ex485/ex487 home servers
The pair features HP's Media Collector (used to schedule, copy and centralize digital files from networked PCs) and also acts as an iTunes server and an external backup device for Macs running Leopard and using Apple's Time Machine software.
