Easily Organize, Store, and Stream your Digital Files

Here's the step-by-step process

The Windows Home Server Console gives you a safe and easy way to organize, store, and stream your digital files.

Storing your files

Step 1: Storing your files
Windows Home Server lets you store all your photos, movies, and more in a central location that can be accessed from any computer on your home network.

  • To begin, click on the Shared Folders shortcut from the desktop. If you do not have the shared folders on your desktop, you can right click the connector and select shared folders from there

  • Right-click on the shared folder of your choice (Music, Photos or Videos)

  • Select Open (Windows Explorer will open)

  • Copy files to your shared folder

Turn on media sharing

Step 2: Turn on media sharing
Any supported digital media player or digital media receiver that can access your home network can also access your digital media in your shared folder.

To turn on Media Library Sharing for a shared folder, open the Windows Home Server Console:

  • Click Settings

  • Click Media Sharing

  • Click On for each of the shared folders (Music, Photos, or Video) that you want to stream

Accessing your stored files

Step 3: Accessing your stored files
Now, you can access your stored files from any home computer or compatible device with your Windows Home Server. Here's how you can view your shared digital files on your Xbox 360:

  • Scroll up to My Xbox in the Xbox 360 Dashboard

  • Scroll right to Music Library

  • Select Server:1. By default, Windows Home Server is installed with the name Server. If you have chosen a different name for your home server, substitute that name for Server

  • After selecting your Windows Home Server, the Xbox 360 displays the music that is available on your Windows Home Server

From that point on, you'll be able to access your digital files through your Xbox 360.
