File types supported by Windows Media Center

You can make Windows Media Center the default player for a number of file types. Additional file formats might be supported if you install new codecs – which are software or hardware used to compress and decompress digital media.

Picture file types

The following table lists the picture file types that are supported in Windows Media Center. Digital pictures that are taken with a digital camera and saved in RAW format are not supported in Windows Media Center. Animated .gif files are not fully supported. For this file format, you can still view the picture image but it does not animate.
