Emergency Repair Disk

You can use the Windows 2000 Emergency Repair Disk (ERD) to fix problems preventing you from starting your computer.

By preparing an ERD when your computer is functioning well, you can be prepared to use it if you need to repair system files. (In this situation, to start a computer that needs repair, you use the Windows 2000 Setup compact disc or floppy disks you created from the compact disc.) The repairs possible with this method are limited to basic system files, the partition boot sector, and the startup environment The repair process does not recover the registry. To replace registry files, use the Recovery Console The Emergency Repair Disk does not back up data or programs, and is not a replacement for regularly backing up your system.
