System Requirements for Windows Media Encoder 9 Series
You can install the 32-bit version of Windows Media Encoder 9 Series on computers running Windows Vista, Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, or Windows 2000. For better performance on a Windows Vista–based computer, in the Microsoft Knowledge Base, see article 929182. For Windows Server 2003, you must enable both the Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) and Windows Audio services. (These services are not enabled by default.) For Windows 2000, you must also install DirectX 9.0.

A 64-bit version of Windows Media Encoder 9 Series is also available. The following table lists required and recommended configurations when using the 32-bit or 64-bit versions of Windows Media Encoder 9 Series. For more information about capture cards that work with Windows Media Encoder 9 Series, see Windows Media Hardware Product Vendors.
