Artisan Entertainment wins. Peter Gabriel, Pink Floyd and DJ Andy Hunter receive Honorable Mentions.
The winner of the 2003 Windows Media Innovation Award is Artisan Entertainment, the leading independent producer and distributor of theatrical, television and home entertainment product. Microsoft presented the award, created by another innovator, world-renowned Seattle artist Dale Chihuly, to Artisan Family Home Entertainment President Glenn Ross on June 19th at a reception in Los Angeles at the Beverly Hills Hotel.
Artisan is a true pioneer, driving the industry forward with their exciting use of Windows Media 9 Series. In the past year, they have achieved several industry firsts:
- Over 2000 digital theatrical screenings (as part of the BMW Digital Cinema Series) of "Standing in the Shadows of Motown," the incredible documentary about the Funk Brothers, the unheralded musicians that played on more #1 hits than the Rolling Stones, Elvis, the Beatles, and the Beach Boys combined.
- The first-ever high-definition DVD-ROM release, "Terminator 2: Judgment Day (Extreme Edition)," a digitally remastered theatrical version of the film in high-definition video and full surround sound on a single DVD-ROM using Windows Media 9 Series
- The first-ever Windows Media high-resolution DVD-ROM, "Standing in the Shadows of Motown"
With these projects, Artisan is meeting the changing needs of film and music fans everywhere by offering pioneering new experiences, including high-definition video and full Internet surround sound.
