Play Your Music in Any Room If you're a digital music fan, you've probably filled your computer with thousands of songs and organized them into meaningful playlists. But what if you want to listen to your music in your living room through high-quality speakers? You could go to the trouble of burning multiple CDs or running long audio cables from your computer to your stereo, but there’s a better way.
With the help of Windows Media Player 11, you can stream music from your computer over your home network to an Xbox 360 or other digital media receiver (DMR) that is connected to your home theater, TV, stereo, or powered speakers. An Xbox 360 or other DMR lets you browse and play just about anything in your Windows Media Player library—ripped CDs, playlists, even online store downloads—from the comfort of your couch.
And if you’re running Windows Media Player 11 for Windows Vista, you can also make your music library available to other computers in your home that have Windows Media Player 11. For example, if you’re in your home office, you can play music that’s stored on the computer in the spare bedroom. No more re-ripping CDs on each computer or copying music files to every hard disk in your home.
