BFI builds online educational reference database for British film and TV
The British Film Institute has built an online educational reference resource developed by Arkemedia Technologies
The British Film Institute has built an online educational reference resource, screen-online, that provides a comprehensive history of British film and television.
The resource, funded by a £1.2 million grant from the New Opportunities Fund and available to UK schools, colleges and libraries, includes video clips, stills, text and audio recordings all related to British films and television.
"We've built a reference resource with over 400 hours of material digitised. We are also beginning to develop educational services to support this," says Richard Paterson, project director of screen-online.
Arkemedia Technologies is providing the core digital asset management system for the database, incorporating Windows Media® technologies, to control the ingestion of material including video, audio, still images and graphics, text and other documents. The video and audio material is available to schools, colleges and libraries in various formats, including Windows Media.
