GIE uses WinRadio software for scheduling
GIE radio group in France has installed a production, scheduling and on-air software solution from WinRadio SoftWare that uses Windows Media 9 Series.
GIE, which is headquartered in Paris, runs a large network of local radio stations across France. The WinRadio software allows customers to capture CD quality audio and DVD video, record, edit and mix, as well as network and play out on-air. The system includes powerful music and commercials scheduling systems and gives users the ability to compile playlists.
"The new Windows Media 9 codec allows us to achieve the best quality," says Pierre Laberge, president and general manager of WinRadio SoftWare's North American subsidiary. "It's a better quality option and uses less space on a hard disk. Also, with Windows Media 9 Series, it is quicker to transfer files than with MPEG. For example, if you start a song, the file is decompressed on delivery. With MPEG there is a delay, but with Windows Media 9 Series, there isn't. You can also provide sound and videoin the same file. With MPEG, you have to have two different files because the sound and video use different types of MPEG."
WinRadio has more than 200 licences in use in France.
