Microsoft provides additional tools and add-ins for Windows Media Services to help you optimize, test, and monitor your Windows Media server.
Scalable Networking
The Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Scalable Networking Pack adds support to the Windows Server 2003 family of operating systems (Service Pack 1 or later) for the next generation of network acceleration and hardware-based offload technologies, which helps you scale your networked applications and services cost effectively. The Scalable Networking Pack provides a substantial boost to Windows Media server performance by offloading CPU-intensive network packet processing to specialized hardware. Windows Media Load Simulator for Windows Media Services simulates a real-world load on a server that is running Windows Media Services 9 Series or Windows Media Services 2008. This tool is designed to run on one or more client computers to simulate a large number of client requests. The load-test results on the server can then be viewed in a log. Management Packs for Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM) collect internal Windows Media server events generated by Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) and monitor performance object counters in Windows Media Services.
The management packs enable you to centrally monitor multiple Windows Media servers from a single console. They highlight operation and performance issues, giving you information that can help you diagnose possible service outages or configuration issues on a Windows Media server. You can use this information to correct server issues or optimize the server for performance.
