View License Terms and Conditions for Files February 2005
Protected media files are governed by a licensing agreement with a content provider. The content provider specifies the license terms and conditions, which typically include the legal copyright protections, expiration, and usage rights for the protected media files. To obtain licenses for content (other than music that you ripped [copied] from CDs to your computer), you may be required to visit the content provider's Web site and register or pay for the license.
In some cases, a license will allow you to play the content for an indefinite period of time, or an unlimited number of times, but only on the computer to which the file was originally downloaded. In other cases, a license will expire after a set period of time, or after you play the content a certain number of times, but allow the content to be copied or moved to other computers (but not necessarily burned to CDs or synchronized [copied] to portable devices) prior to the license expiration.
In Windows Media Player, you can easily identify which files in your library are protected media files. You can also view the license details for these protected media files.
