Take Your Music and Video with You (Windows Media Player 10)

February 2005

Windows Media Player 9 Series makes it easy to take your music with you wherever you go. Simply connect your portable device to your computer, and then download your favorite songs. You can even use the Player to copy music and video to a PDA!

Using the Player to Copy Music and Video to a Portable Device

The Player is compatible with a variety of portable music players and devices. For a list of devices that support Windows Media, see the Portable Media Players Web page.

For the Player to recognize your portable device, drivers or service providers (SPs) may need to be installed on your computer. If required, the drivers are usually provided with the installation media for the device. For the latest drivers, see your device manufacturer's Web site.

To use the Player to copy content to your portable device, the content must first be listed in Media Library and the portable device must be connected to your computer.

To add content to Media Library from your computer
  1. In Windows Media Player 9 Series, click Media Library.
  2. On the Tools menu, click Search for Media Files to add content to Media Library from your computer.

Once you have all the content you want in Media Library, you're ready to copy files to your portable device. If you want to copy content from different categories in Media Library, it is best to first create a playlist of the content, and then copy the playlist to your portable device. For more information about creating playlists, see the article Create and Use Playlists or see Windows Media Player Help.

Note   Content purchased from services such as Napster and Music Now might be listed in Media Library in the artist and album categories, as well as under the Premium Services category. For more information about adding content to Media Library and using Premium Services, see Windows Media Player Help.
