Windows Azure Getting Started

Develop

  1. Download the Windows Azure Platform Training Kit
  2. Configure your local machine
  3. Download Tools & SDK

    Get Tools & SDK
  4. View Windows Azure Sample Application and Code

Deploy

  1. Create a New Windows Azure Account

    Before you get started, you need to have a Windows Azure token.
    1. Request a token by completing the application here. Tokens are generally issued within a few hours.
    2. Once you have received your token, redeem it at http://windows.azure.com.
  2. Create a New Windows Azure Storage Project (If Needed)

    If you need cloud storage using Windows Azure, follow these steps.
    1. Login to the Windows Azure Portal at http://windows.azure.com.
    2. Click New Project, and then select Storage Account.
    3. Enter a project label (such as davidtododb) and click Next. Enter the same name for the Storage Account Name. Check to make sure the account is available and then click Create.
  3. Deploy your Application
    1. On the Windows Azure Portal, click New Project, and then select Hosted Service.
    2. Enter a project label (such as davidMyToDo) and click Next. Enter the same name for the Account Name. Check to make sure the account is available and then click Create.
    3. When the project screen appears, click Deploy.
    4. For the app package, upload AppName.cspkg.
    5. For the Configuration setting, upload ServiceConfiguration.cscfg.
    6. Enter v1 as the label for deployment.  Click Deploy.
    7. Once the package has updated, click Run. This may take a few minutes to complete.
    8. Once the package is running, click the Swap button between Staging and Production to promote your service to production.
    9. Click the URL to access your application.

  • Download the Windows Azure Platform Training Kit

These labs cover Windows Azure, .NET Services, SQL Azure, and Live Services
  • Create a new SQL Azure account and register for the CTP
    The SQL Azure Database CTP is available for free. Click Here to create your account with your Live ID, and we will send you an invitation code. (Due to high demand for the SQL Azure Database CTP, there may be some delays in receiving your invitation codes as we onboard new participants.)
  • Log in
    Visit https://sql.azure.com and sign in with your Live ID, then enter your invitation code.
  • Create your SQL Azure Server (and databases)

AppFabric Getting Started

  • Download AppFabric SDK

    The AppFabric SDK includes API libraries, tools, samples, and documentation for building connected applications with the .NET platform. It spans the entire spectrum of today’s Internet applications – from rich connected applications with advanced connectivity requirements to Web-style applications that use simple protocols such as HTTP and Atom to communicate with the broadest possible range of clients. Download AppFabric SDK.

  • Create a New AppFabric Account

    Before you get started, you need to have an AppFabric Account.

    1. Log into to the AppFabric Developer Portal using your Windows Live ID
    2. Provide a subscription name, which is used for identifying your subscription while using our website
    3. Add a solution with a unique solution name
