In designing their next generation technology, MaxID created a solution using the Intel Atom processor, Microsoft’s Windows Embedded OS, and integration by Eurotech. Eurotech has entered into a contract with Authentidate for design and delivery of the embedded computing engine for Authentidate’s joint venture ExpressMD Solutions’ remote patient health monitoring device. Eurotech’s engineering development team will deliver a single board that will leverage the current computer design for greatest cost reduction and differentiation of the platform to fulfill this contract within Authentidate’s accelerated time-to-market schedule.

Francesc Vilariño Güell delivered the technical presentation “Telephony: Modem Control in Windows Embedded CE,”in the Microsoft theatre, at the ESC Silicon Valley 2009 Tuesday, March 31st, and twice on Wednesday, April 1st. The talk focused on how to abstract modem hardware for phone applications in Windows Embedded CE. Güell examined the common obstacles that impede the design of the modem control subsystem such as maintaining radio fidelity and assuring adequate data throughput. The key technologies to be covered include the radio interface layer, cellular telephony, modem abstraction layer, GSM, GCF/PTCRB, and IOT. Sophia Systems will demonstrate a Universal JTAG emulator Atmel Corporation has released Microsoft Windows Embedded Board Support Packages (BSPs) for its AT91SAM9 ARM926EJ-S-based embedded MPUs. The Windows Embedded CE 5.0 BSP and the Windows Embedded CE 6.0 R2 BSP, initially developed by Adeneo Embedded and now supported by Atmel, are available for free from the Web site http://www.at91.com/windows4sam, subject only to the user accepting on-line a Limited License Agreement. These BSPs were previously provided by Adeneo under a fee-paying software license agreement. Making them freely available significantly facilitates the access to Windows Embedded technologies on Atmel's ARM9 products.with
eXDI-2 plugin for Windows Embedded CE/Platform Builder6.0 R2. This allows for a single JTAG Hardware Assist unit which supports all popular embedded CPU types: ARM, TI/OMAP, Freescale/iMX, Marvell/PXA, Renesas/SH, etc.

ProcSys launched the ION, a Multi-featured, Universal Handheld Device for Point-of-Service applications, at the Embedded World event in Nuremberg, Germany on March 3rd. The ION is based on the Intel Atom Z530P embedded processor and runs Windows Embedded CE and Windows XP Embedded as well as the regular version of Windows XP. Among other features the ION comes with a Thermal Printer, Biometrics, Camera, and Smartcard and offers connectivity through GSM/GPRS/Wi-Fi/Bluetooth. The portability and versatility of the ION can be leveraged in various industry sectors like Finance, Medical/Healthcare, Manufacturing, Retail, Transportation etc.

NeST has developed a prototype portable device that can be used to remotely examine, monitor, and treat a patient. The device sends patient reports via text, voice, images, video, and enable video conferencing with a medical specialist. Other features include multiple power source operation and a choice of broadband connectivity solutions – depending on site conditions at specific rural locations. Both hardware and software are designed to be highly modular and Windows CE and Linux versions are available. This project has been funded by Media Lab Asia promoted by Department of IT, Govt. of India.

Nav N Go announced a substantial expansion of its Eastern European map coverage to offer an extensive and reliable mapping package for the Eastern European markets. Adding to the existing 12 Eastern European countries, Nav N Go introduced mapping solutions for Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Slovenia, and three Baltic Nations. The extended Eastern European mapping solution will feature over 80,000 Points of Interest, and will be available for the Nav N Go iGO 8 and iGO amigo software platforms in Q2 2009.

Portwell announces the new NAR-4060, a reliable, compact 1U rack mount server with six PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet ports. The NAR-4060 is regulatory certification-ready, including FCC, CE and UL. Driven by the Intel 945GC chipset, Portwell's new NAR-4060 also supports: Intel Celeron 400 series 35W processors; dual-channel DDR2 667/533/400 DIMM (up to 4GB); one 3.5˝ IDE or SATA HDD; Compact Flash (CF); and SATA Disk-on-Module (DOM). Oasis Technologies of Pune, India, has released a customizable PDA reference design code named OPAD. This device runs Windows Embedded CE and is based on Atmel ARM9 processor running at 200 Mhz clock frequency.

The AUG AMI DevKit combines a 3.4” AMOLED display, a capacitive sensor keypad behind 4mm glass or a resistive touch screen, a 10/100 MBit Ethernet and the .NET Micro Framework 3.0 on a Atmel AT91SAM9261 platform with 64 MB RAM and 256 MB Flash. That is at least three exciting technologies combined in a device with very nice form factor. Custom emulator, all drivers for the hardware and samples are provided to let VS2008 C# (desktop) programmers work immediately and directly on the metal and develop managed solutions in C# without the hassle of driver / BSP / Interrupt programming. Develop, deploy and debug with Visual Studio over the Ethernet and let the device host and/or consume Web-Services. Production modules and mechanical solutions for the display and capacitive sensor glass front are available.

Eltan B.V., a European independent engineering company specialized in PC and Communication Technology, announces the BOOT from SD Card for x86 based systems. Eltan created the BIOS support to add SD Cards, MMC cards and e-MMC devices as boot devices. Modules are available for integration into the Phoenix Technologies and Award BIOS Code bases. The support is also available as a standard Option ROM.
