The Windows Embedded team launched the “SPARKs Will Fly” contest on November 27th at ESC Boston. The contest is global and open to all except full-time Microsoft employees. Retailers and Manufacturers using Microsoft operating systems now have an extremely effective solution, providing protection from malware replacing antivirus for fixed-function or embedded systems. NSS Labs, has reported that Solidcore's S3 Control for Embedded Systems deployed on a Point of Sale system with Microsoft XP Professional and Retalix Point of Sale Software achieved a 100% score in maintaining host integrity and 99.98% in malware protection.
A new bundled development platform enables OEMs to deliver connected consumer navigation handhelds based on Intrinsyc’s Soleus software and SiRF’s location technology chipset. Shanghai RagenTek used the platform to reduce development risk, lower system design and engineering costs, and speed time-to-market for the new Cronos connected navigation device with turn-by-turn GPS navigation.
BSQUARE launched a new 3G Dev Kit that enables OEMs using the Windows Embedded CE 6.0 operating system to incorporate 3G data connectivity in their TI OMAP35x processor-based designs with significantly reduced technical risks, saving them up to 60 percent of the time typically required to integrate and test Windows Embedded CE in an embedded 3G design.
Eurotech’s Turbo G5, based on the Freescale i.MX31 processor is now available. The Turbo G5 offers high performance, including vector floating point, in a small, COM form factor and with low power draw, making it an ideal solution for portable, multimedia, and networked devices requiring 3D graphics and application acceleration.
Eurotech’s Catalyst EC delivers Intel Architecture in the EPIC form factor for low power, space-constrained applications with comprehensive features such as LVDS and RGB, gigabit Ethernet, USB 2.0, and wireless support including Bluetooth and GPS. OEMs can optimize the carrier board for their unique needs.

Quarta Technologies holds one day conference dedicated to Windows Embedded products in Kiev, Ukraine on November 20, 2008. The conference called “Windows Embedded Day” is a unique and first event dedicated to Windows Embedded products in Ukraine. The conference includes both business and technical presentations and is meant to help Ukrainian manufacturers create smart devices on Windows Embedded platform.
This event will cover both commercial and technical topics surrounding Microsoft embedded solutions. The commercial aspect of the seminar will cover a general overview of the available Windows Embedded solutions, while the technical element will drill down in more detail on the functionalities within Windows Embedded Standard (next generation of XP Embedded) and Windows Embedded CE.
EB will participate in the 3rd international conference on Advanced Navigation as exhibitor and sponsor with its EB street director. The conference will be held November 24-26, 2008 in Potsdam, Germany.
Kontron announced its embedded computing technology will again be integrated into another one of Bombardier’s rail system designs being developed to answer transportation needs throughout China. Bombardier has used embedded computing technology from Kontron since 1996 for the development of numerous high-profile transportation and rail control systems, including automated train cars and wayside rail projects around the world.
db4objects, creator of the leading open source object database, has announced that its db4o object database now includes a new pluggable string encoding interface which allow users to specify arbitrary character sets on the database to facilitate the Internationalization of applications.

HandPoint headStart is designed to enable Chip&PIN card payments on Windows Embedded CE payment devices. The solution includes a hardware application layer that handles peripheral handling (scanner, msr, chip reader, printer, modem) and also a card Payments layer that handles integrations to various payment processors and acquirers.
Winwap Technologies Oy, specialist in providing mobile Internet browsers (WAP) and multimedia messaging (MMS) software, and Shanghai RagenTek Communication Technology Co. Ltd., leading GSM/GPRS and Smartphone solution provider, announced today that RagenTek have licensed Winwap´s applications and will include them in their new Smartphone product called Cronus.
Kontron and Astute Networks Inc. have announced new industry-setting read/write I/O benchmark results that have profound ‘bottom-line’ significance for telecom and network equipment providers (TEMs/NEPs) in the IPTV and Video on Demand (VoD) market segments.
Tahoe-II is a sequel to the very popular original kit, is shipping. The Kit retains the Meridian CPU at the core, and includes lots of ways to prototype new devices. New features include a larger LCD screen (3.5″ with touch!), along with Ethernet and an Accelerometer on-board. The kit also includes an SD card slot for memory cards and a socket for an XBee wireless module.
Kontron has announced its latest-generation embedded motherboards that offer the 45nm Intel Core2 Quad processor Q9400 and the Intel Q45 Express chipset on the ATX and Flex-ATX form factors with 7-year long lifecycle support. The new Kontron embedded motherboards push the performance of compute-intensive applications.
American Portwell Technology, Inc., a member of the Intel Embedded and Communications Alliance (Intel ECA), has developed a new motherboard with the latest Intel platform for embedded applications. The Portwell RUBY-9720 (microATX form factor), built with the 45nm Intel Core2 Quad processor Q9400 and Intel Q45 Express chipset, provides the ideal solution for multiple applications such as POS, ATM, Kiosk, Gaming and Digital Signage.
AEWIN Technologies Co., Ltd, a reputable designer and manufacture in computing hardware platforms, announced the launch of the SCB-7975, a 1U appliance designed for a broad range of network service applications as like of gateway security, UTM, network management, load balancing, WAN optimized acceleration and VOIP gateway.
The SCB-7969 is a 1U rack-mounted network security hardware platform designed for high performance IDS/IPS, firewall, VPN gateway, load balancing and UTM. Built with Intel Embedded IA components with warranty of longevity, the SCB-7969 supports Intel Pentium M/ Celeron M ULV processor expandable computing power from 600MHz to 2.0 GHz of CPU core speed with Intel 915GME/910GMLE chipset and ICH6-M I/O controller.
With a faster clock rate of 733 MHz, accelerated DDR SDRAM (266 MHz, + 33.3 %), double the amount of system and user Flash and a Gigabit Ethernet port for faster data throughput and overall greater system performance, the Kontron CP3210 CompactPCI CPU board is an enhanced version of the highly reliable and powerful Kontron PowerEngineC7.
Ascender announced Mayberry Pro, a new OpenType font family designed for use on screen and in print. Mayberry was initially designed to emulate the technical behavior of the Tiresias ScreenFont for use in set top TV devices and user interfaces. Mayberry corrects many errors and typographic issues found in Tiresias, thus providing improved readability and aesthetics when rendered on TV screens, mobile phones and consumer electronics devices.
Axiom announced new public training courses on Windows Embedded this quarter, based on the Microsoft Official Curriculum and presented in the popular boot camp format. The XP Embedded foundation is scheduled for November and the Windows Embedded CE Foundation will be offered in December 08.
Moxa has launched a new marketing campaign that highlights the importance of "wide temperature" products in industrial embedded computing. It discovers the technology of producing an industrial-grade computer with wide temperature feature that allows to be used reliably in temperatures ranging from -40 to 75℃.
