Smart Home

With the “RWE SmartHome”, Microsoft and RWE Effizienz GmbH offer an innovative green solution for houses and apartments. The key feature being efficient power and heat consumption, which is controlled by the “heart” of the “SmartHome”: the control unit. Depending on need heating, lights and household appliances can be turned on or off automatically.

The solution has been built utilizing a wide range of Microsoft technologies and products such as Windows CE 6.0R3, Windows Server 2008 R2, Office Communication Server 2007 R2 and SQL Server 2008.

As the development partner for the overall solution, Microsoft brought RWE’s vision onto the CE based “SmartHome Controller” and seamlessly and securely integrated it with their datacenter and an easy to use frontend.

Given the strength of the Windows Embedded Partner Ecosystem and the wealth of expertise available to OEMs and device manufacturers, RWE were able to tap into the knowledge base of 3 Windows Embedded Partners to build the “SmartHome” solution.  Adeneo Embedded provided expertise for BSP adaptation and integration, driver development and overall system performance optimization; eQ-3 provided the Hardware platform; Zühlke supported the project in the design and build of the application – aiding in minimizing energy consumption.
