Synchronize your Windows phone with your Windows PC

By syncing your phone with your computer, you can easily access your music, photos, and Outlook contacts and e-mail—all your important files—whether you’re sitting in your office or your doctor’s waiting room. Because you’re always updating your files, it’s a good idea to synchronize regularly. There are only three steps required to sync your phone with your computer:

Step 1: Get ready

Grab your phone and the USB cable that came with it. If you need some additional help setting up and using your new phone, see the basics section for helpful how-to information.

Step 2: Download the PC synchronization software

Your synchronization settings will be managed through ActiveSync if you have Windows XP or earlier; Windows Mobile Device Center if you have Windows Vista or Windows 7.

If your start button looks like this, you are running Windows Vista or Windows 7.

If your start button looks like this, you are running Windows XP.

Step 3: Get Microsoft Office Outlook

To sync your phone’s e-mail, calendar, and contacts with your PC, you need a current or previous version of Outlook. For the best experience, you’ll need the latest version. If you don’t have Office Outlook 2007 installed on your PC, get a free 60-day trial.
