Microsoft System Center Mobile Device Manager 2008 Service Pack 1

System Center Mobile Device Manager (MDM) enables Windows Mobile 6.1 devices to be deployed and managed like PCs and laptops in the IT infrastructure, providing them network access to corporate data and making them first-class citizens on the corporate network. MDM provides customers the ability to set and control policies using Active Directory and Group Policy. Extend corporate data and line of business (LOB) applications in a highly secure virtual private network (VPN) environment. Execute a remote wipe with the “always on” Mobile VPN (mVPN) if a device is lost or falls into the wrong hands. Take advantage of advanced features including policy enforcement, inventory and reporting, and software distribution from a single point of management.

System Center plays a central role in the Microsoft vision to help IT organizations have self-managing, dynamic systems. Solutions such as Windows Mobile 6.1 and Mobile Device Manager are tuned to simplify managing systems and applications.

Together, they enhance on-device security and enforce over-the-air policies. They allow IT professionals to manage phones more efficiently within organizations, and give mobile employees access to confidential information on corporate networks with firewalls.
Mobile Device Manager:
  • Helps protect sensitive information if the device is lost or stolen.
  • Performs instant* remote device wipe to help reduce security risks.
  • Provides security enhanced behind-the-firewall access to mobile users.
  • Helps lower maintenance and troubleshooting costs and management complexity.
  • Provides greater scalability with support for thousands of users on a server.
  • Gives IT Professionals a robust development platform, improved reliability, and better application access and control for Windows Mobile devices.

* When connected to Wi-Fi or a carrier network.

Note: Available programs, features, and functionality vary by device and Windows Mobile operating system version used. Connectivity and synchronization may require separately purchased equipment and/or wireless products (for example, Wi-Fi card, network software, server hardware, and/or redirector software). Service plans are required for Internet, Wi-Fi and phone access. Features and performance may vary by service provider and are subject to network limitations. See device manufacturer, service provider and/or corporate IT department for details.
