Download Microsoft ActiveSync 4.5

Download and install Microsoft ActiveSync 4.5 if you use Windows XP or an earlier version of the Windows operating system on your computer and you want to sync Microsoft Office Outlook data or other files, including pictures and music, between your phone and your computer.

ActiveSync is only compatible with Windows XP or earlier. If you run Windows Vista or Windows 7, download
Windows Mobile Device Center.

If you are running Windows XP or earlier, download ActiveSync 4.5 (Worldwide English).

For all other languages, visit the Microsoft Download Center.

Notes

  • You can use ActiveSync 4.5 only with phones that run Windows Mobile 2003 or later versions. ActiveSync and Windows Mobile Device Center won’t work with Windows Embedded CE 4.2 or 5.0, Pocket PC 2002, or Smartphone 2002 phones. (To see which Windows Mobile operating system you’re using, if your phone doesn’t have a touch screen, click Start > Settings > About. If your phone has a touch screen, click Start > Settings > System tab > About.) To sync information to any of these phones, you must use a USB or serial cable and your computer’s Internet connection and File Explorer.
  • You must use Microsoft Outlook 2002, Outlook 2003, or Office Outlook 2007 to sync your e-mail, contacts, tasks, and notes from your computer.

Download and install ActiveSync:

  • Click the download link on this page, and then click Continue.
  • Select whether you want to register for the Windows Mobile newsletter, and then click Continue.
  • Click Download files below, and then click Download (next to the Setup.msi file).
  • In the File Download dialog box, click Run.
  • Follow the instructions in the Installation Wizard to install ActiveSync.
Note  You must use a USB cable to connect your phone to your computer the first time you use ActiveSync to synchronize information.

Key updates and system requirements for ActiveSync

ActiveSync 4.5 key updates

ActiveSync 4.5 now includes a troubleshooter tool that scans your computer and your phone to identify problems and offers information and corrective actions.

If you use a Windows Mobile 5.0 phone with the Messaging and Security feature pack, ActiveSync 4.5 provides:

  • Direct Push technology
  • Local device wipe
  • Certificate-powered authentication to Microsoft Exchange Server
If you use Windows Mobile 6 and synchronize with Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 or later, ActiveSync 4.5 provides:
  • HTML-formatted e-mail
  • Information Rights Management (IRM)–protected e-mail
Note  ActiveSync 4.5 does not support conversion of database or font files for use on a mobile phone. In previous versions, this feature was limited to devices running Windows Mobile software for Pocket PC 2003 and earlier.

ActiveSync 4.5 works only with the following versions of the Windows Mobile operating system:

  • Windows Mobile 5.0 with Messaging and Security Feature Pack
  • Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition
