How to install an application for your phone from a .cab file

You install software applications for your mobile phone in one of two ways, depending on how the software is provided to you:
  • Either the file that installs the program runs on your PC, and you then copy the program files onto your mobile phone; or
  • You copy a "package" of files (in the form of a .cab file—short for cabinet file) from your PC to your mobile phone, and the installation program runs on your mobile phone.
The steps for installing an application from a .cab file are:
  • Connect your phone to your PC with a USB cable.
  • Navigate to the application you want to download (either on your PC or on a Web site).
  • Open ActiveSync on your PC.
  • Click Explore.
  • Copy the file to \Storage\Windows\Start Menu\Accessories on your device.
  • Click Start > Accessories, and scroll to the .cab file. If you don't see the file in Accessories, use File Manager to find and open the file.
  • Open the .cab file. The application will automatically install itself on your mobile phone.
