Personalize your device

Applies to: Windows Mobile 5.0 Smartphone

One of the first things that most people want to know about their devices is: how do I make it my own? This might mean changing your home screen, adding a ringtone, or adding a picture to a contact.

Assign a ringtone to a contact

To easily identify who is calling you by the ringtone, you can assign a specific ringtone to each contact.
  • Click Start > Contacts.
  • Click the contact you want to assign a ringtone to.
  • Click Menu > Edit
  • Click Custom ringtone and select the ringtone you want.
  • Click Done.

Specify the sound for an event

  • On the Home screen, click Start > Settings > Sounds
  • Under an event, click a sound. Click None if you don't want to hear a sound.
  • Repeat for each event, and click Done.

Note

For ringtones, you can use sounds in.wav, .mid, or .wma file format. For notifications or reminders, you can use .wav, or .mid.

Tip

When you select a sound, the sound plays. To hear it again, select Menu > Play.

Add a picture to contact information

  • On the Home screen, click Start > Contacts.
  • Click the contact.
  • Click Menu > Edit.
  • Click Picture.
  • Do one of the following:
    • Click the picture you want to add.
    • Click Camera and take a picture.

Remove a picture from contact information

  • On the Home screen, click Start > Contacts.
  • Click the contact.

Change the Home screen appearance

  • On the Home screen, click Start > Settings > Home Screen.
  • Under Home screen layout, Color scheme, and Background image, select the options you want, and then click Done.

Add a custom Home screen background image

  • Connect the phone to your PC.
  • On your PC, copy the image file you want. The file format must be .gif, .jpg, or .bmp.
  • In ActiveSync on your PC, click Explore, and then double-click My Windows Mobile device.
  • Double-click Application Data, double-click Home, and then paste the image into that folder.

Note

For best results, use images with the same screen resolution as your phone's screen resolution, either 240 x 320 pixels or 176 x 200 pixels, depending on the phone.
