Lock your SIM card by using a PIN

Have you ever sold or given away a phone but forgotten to take out the SIM card? Have you lost a SIM card that contained information for many of your contacts? Prevent someone from using your SIM card to make unauthorized calls by protecting it with a PIN.

  • Click Start > Settings > Personal tab, Phone > Security tab.
  • Select the Require PIN when phone is used check box.
  • On the phone keypad, enter the PIN and click Enter.
If this is the first time you are setting a PIN for this SIM card, enter the default PIN, which may be 1234. If this PIN doesn’t work, you can get the PIN from the manufacturer or mobile operator that sold you the phone.

The message PIN enabled appears on the screen, and the phone returns to the Security tab.

Tips: The SIM card PIN unblocking key and other PIN uses
  • If you enter the wrong PIN too many times, the SIM card will be blocked by your wireless service provider. To unblock a SIM card, you must contact your provider’s customer service to obtain the PIN Unblocking Key (PUK). If you enter the wrong PUK too many times, your SIM card will be permanently blocked.
  • If you turn on Flight Mode, you will be required to enter the SIM PIN the next time you want to use the phone to make a call or use the Internet.
  • PIN2 is used for fixed dialing. If you set PIN2, you can use the phone to call a set number of phone numbers determined by your mobile operator.
  • Click Start > Settings > Security.
  • Click Enable SIM PIN.
