Windows phone
Microsoft ActiveSync has a lot of settings you can experiment with after you’ve successfully synchronized all that important Microsoft Office Outlook information to your phone. Don’t forget: ActiveSync is only compatible with Windows XP or earlier. If you run Windows Vista or Windows 7, you’ll want to learn about Windows Mobile Device Center settings.

You can use Connection Settings and Office Outlook Settings in ActiveSync to change the way your phone connects to your computer and the way your phone synchronizes Office Outlook information from your computer.

Note   The first time you sync your phone with your computer, you need to use a USB cable connection.

Connection settings

Open the Connection Settings dialog box by clicking Connection Settings on the ActiveSync File menu.

In the Connection Settings dialog box, you can set the following options:

  • Allow a USB cable connection between your phone and your computer.
  • Allow a Bluetooth connection between your phone and your computer if both devices are Bluetooth-enabled, or allow your phone to connect to one of your computer’s COM ports.
  • Connect to a work network or to the Internet.
  • Enable ActiveSync to open automatically when you connect your phone to your computer.
To specify the sync settings for your calendar and e-mail, connect your phone to your computer with a USB cable, and then, in ActiveSync on your computer, on the Tools menu, click Options to open the Settings dialog box.

Note  You can only change the settings for the calendar and e-mail.

Calendar

To modify the Calendar synchronization settings, select Calendar, and then click Settings. In the Settings dialog box, you can select a time limit for synchronizing past appointments.

E-mail

To modify the e-mail synchronization settings, select E-mail, and then click Settings. In the Settings dialog box, you can:
  • Select a time limit for syncing past e-mail messages.
  • Select the format in which you want to send e-mail messages. HTML allows you to change the formatting of the text, such as making a word bold, and plain-text format doesn’t.
  • Select a limit for the size of incoming e-mail messages, and specify whether to accept attachments.
